My hawk ain't afraid of your ole buzzard. Didn't you see he's named "Josey Wales?"

BTW,How do you keep it from eating what it catches?

Hurry. In the beginning, you do let them fill on up what they catch. After a few kills, you start trading them off to a pre-cut piece of something and taking what they kill.

Nowhere yet, but I'll start in maybe 3 weeks or so. I have a few places here and there around Huntsville. Give me a chance to get him hunting and if you're interested, I'd be glad to take you out sometime. Even more glad if you have access to some land with rabbits or squirrels.

There's another guy on here that I owe a trip from last year. Can't remember who it was though. Speak up if you're out there. We'll try again this year once my bird knows what it's doing.

Dude! We saw some of this(minus hawks) yesterday. I really did not think it went on in real life. I wanted to yell: LIGHTING BOLT at them, but was afraid I might gt attacked. I have video too.

Thats badass..im def jelly

Eta - After you catch/trap the hawk the first time, do you
use the same method to catch it after a hunt? How common is it for the bird to just take off and not come back?

No, you train them to come to you for food. The trick is never trying to fly the bird when it isn't hungry. It's pretty common to lose hawks. Some species are more prone to that than others. Falcons, for example, go up thousands of feet in the air where a stiff breeze might blow them 2 counties over. Most lost hawks are the result of improper weight management though. If they're not hungry, they tend to just ignore you.

Since all it takes is putting Falconry Trap into google I'm pretty sure you aren't spreading it around the internet discussing the subject.

It's easy to find. Interested people can look it up and find it. I just didn't want to post it on a public forum for billybob and 6 of his drunkest friends to find some saturday afternoon after losing to the war eagles or something. My peers frown on the rampant spreading of information.

Alright gump here's how it is. You're CREATING interest by not treating it like every other subject on here. I could take a pygmy out of the congo, set them down with google and tell them to find a hawk trap and they'd be able to within seconds. I know falconers have this ancient view of the sport where there must be apprenticeships and whatnot and it's supposed to be secret knowledge and wizardry but that world is gone.

If Billy Bob wants to know how to catch a falcon, which he wouldn't had you not made a thread about HEY CHECK OUT THIS FALCON I JUST CAUGHT BUT NOT GONNA TELL YOU HOW CUZ IT'S A SEEKRIT... he's gonna find out how to do it in less than five seconds depending on his ability to spell the words falcon and trap.

Your peers can frown on it all they like. Unless you all just swear an oath of secrecy about anything to do with the sport and send out falcon death squads to take down the websites spilling your arcane lore on the interwebs... that ship has sailed.

You're right. That's why I'm going to start leaving my loaded shotgun laying on the couch. My neighbor's dumbass kids can just go find one anyway, if they want. No reason to hope they lose interest in the shotgun discussion I had with their dad and forget to go find a gun of their own.

I appreciate you setting me straight. Clearly, what I need is someone smart to guide me.

Oh, you're racist. I see. I'm only part Gump. I had sex with a british chick who lives in Louisiana a few times. So, don't hate on me.
