Seems like a good deal for both sides.

I still don't understand why people are mad that ND is independent. Are people mad that Navy is independent?

It's a free market. I guess people would just feel more comfortable if ND was safe and sound in a conference?

This is actually pretty damn smart for Notre Dame.

Their home games are broadcasted on NBC, and now all of their away games against ACC competition will be on national TV, and I'm sure they get a nice piece of that new TV contract

just join the conference or dont for fricks sake.

Yeah, if you were the decision maker for ND, I'm sure they'd think that would be a real savvy move.

for starters, ND doesnt play army and air force every year. ND will likely keep Stanford but thats mainly to maintain a west coast presence in recruiting.

ACC commish John Swofford: "Notre Dame enhances the league's unique blend of public & private institutions that are international in scope."

great move by ND IMO. I think they join as a football member somewhere down the road and this will pay dividends now in recruiting

Big East continues to implode. Georgetown and the rest of the small catholic schools should join the a-10. Would be a solid basketball league

It would be cool to see a Catholic League in basketball. That would have some good teams and be instantly marketable.

Then why does it bother people that they aren't in a conference?

This.

ND, BYU, Navy, and Army are independent. Nothing wrong with that.

They have to know that no one really cares about them anymore besides NBC. Just get over your "tradition" and get with the times. If they were still a power, they might could still get away with this. Now it's just sad.

One doesn't have to do with the other.

And like I said, now that we have a different postseason format coming up, it won't be that big of an issue. But I know that hurt their recruiting over the years. Kids knowing that ND didn't have the automatic conference tie in. And with a lot of the mystique of the school fading over time, playing for the Irish just wasn't that big of an appeal for all of the top recruits. Joining the Big 10 would have made more sense, but I feel joining a conference is only going to help them.

So 15 basketball teams when they join? Does the ACC find a 16th?

you've been bragging about their supposedly great recruiting on this board for years now.

why don't you come back when they actually accomplish something?
