I layered the bottom with bacon, then a layer of chicken tenders (inner fillets), then another layer of bacon. I covered that with diced apples and Sweet Baby Ray's Honey BBQ sauce. Set on low and let cook all day. Not sure how it will turn out but I will report back tomorrow.

Wife called said it was burnt pretty bad when she got home but she "salvaged" some of it. We ate it now my stomach hurts so yeah it wasn't what I had hoped for. Maybe next receipe......

I'm just not a fan of chicken in the crockpot unless it is dark meat chicken

And even then, meh

you don't think the chicken sitting between 2 layers of bacon might be a tad greasy?

You could cook this in a microwve.

Yeah

I'm not really understanding the decision to take a bunch of quick cook ingredients and put them in a slow cooker...

The crock pot is generally pretty forgiving

This just sounds like a sweet mess of nastiness though

never had anything from a crock pot that wouldn't have been better cooked in a different way

Probably a true statement

That being said, I've had some good crock pot meals. If I'm doing a crock pot roast, I usually coat with some flour and brown in a different pan before throwing it in the pot.

Usually comes out pretty solid that way

Apparently, you have never had the far superior Natchitoches style red beans.

pman.. a sear first seems like a decent idea. not sure if that would affect the cooking time

Gris.. never heard of them

You must have missed Apache's thread on red beans Natchitoches style. He has a high opinion of the food in Natchitoches as well.

I did miss that one. Was it over the weekend? I'll have to sift back through the weeds and find this gem.

Everything is better not in the crock pot. But it cooks while I am away so I use it.

Really it only works when the cooking time makes sense.

Leaving it on for 10 hours and all that nonsense usually produces a strange end result
