Do any of you that consistently post on this board have any interest/passion for wine? Have any friends in that category?

Search some of the threads on here. We have some good thread sometimes about wine and yes there are some very informed posters on the subject.

I love wine and attend tastings and such a couple of times a year. I just don't truly have the budget to get into the nicer bottles.

I'm a certified sommelier working on my advanced and running a restaurant with a 300 bottle selection. Baton rouge is a new world oriented city. Luckily I experience a bit more than just that in here and am allowed the diversity I have. Outside of that though, I do some private seminars and tastings, a FOH finisher course at the LA culinary institute and some other things on the side. To solely think u can get by going one thing is hard in this market. A bigger city is what is needed.

A friend and I have had many conversations about this as of late. We are both very much into wine. The thing we are trying to figure out is, is it the approach wine places, ie Wine Loft, the Loft, are taking in trying to present wine to people in BR. Or, is it just the culture of BR. I work in the beverage sales industry, and find that there are quite a bit of knowledgable people in BR about wine. I find there are a lot of people out there who want to learn more about it as well. We kind of came to the conclusion that if wine were approached in a way that wasn't so stuffy, and more of a casual, fun environment like it's supposed to be, people in BR would get more behind it.
