I think the teens were "legal", but the doesn't the law "protect" them (students) from people in authority (teachers, administration, etc.)?

yes and that is what I don't agree with
for example:
Teacher A has sex with 18 year old student = illegal
Teacher B has sex with same 18 year old student = not illegal
how you may ask, well Teacher A taught student in May in high school and Teacher B taught student in September in college
or simply Teacher A teaches at students high school but doesn't even teach the student and Teacher B teaches at different high school
I just think it is stupid to criminalize two consenting adults having sex (exceptions for prostitution and penal institutions)

Well, to that I have to just say it's the law and you have to obey the law while it's a law or else face the consequences.

oh, I agree with you completely
I just think it is overkill, and should be unethical and a violation of teacher's employment and lose of teaching certification, but prison time seems really harsh
I hope it is repealed someday
