Don't worry about it. He's all pissy because he got banned back during the season over threatening to make a list of readers (i.e. myself, Hugo, I think OM, etc) and made threats to spoil people when the new books come out and a bunch of bullshite like that.
At this point I'd just ignore him. Engaging him is just going to turn the thread into a bitchfest which will be shitty to the non-readers who actually come to the thread for info. I wouldn't even answer his questions if he asks. Just let him sit there.

Thanks . I'll leave blueboy to his own devices then. Who knew he'd stir the pot during the off-season? The season 4 trailer won't be out till February .

Bump from the third page.
I started my reread from roughly where this last season left off in ASOS. Two thoughts,
1) The show is making a completely different track through the story line, obvious to many of you but it's just so apparent in the reread.
2) Doing a reread after reading this thread has completely altered the way I read these books. What used to be boring filler in the first read (aka dream sequences, etc.) are now all deeply searched for foreshadowing and theory clues.
I may go back all the way to the beginning for a re-read because it's been very entertaining.

Game of Thrones has some of the most important hidden gems out of all the books. I've read them all 3 times and will probably do another one before Winds. I said no more after the 3rd, but it always sucks me back in.

Just realized something: Theon killed his bastard sons. He had sex with the Miller's wife, and they became his bastard sons. Can't believe I didn't make the connection until a reread.
how'd you put that together

Here's a question..if I just skipped all the Daenerys chapters would I be missing out on anything in the reread.
Why would I want to do this? Because phuck Dany that's why..

All of the people I know that have only watched the show love her.

her and brienne's chapters are the worst.

By far the most painful on my reread. Not only is she overly frustrating due to a high level of stupidity, but nothing matters to me outside of Westeros. I only read them because of the every so often history of Westeros story that would come from Jorah or Selmy.

THIS...
Brienne's chapters dragged AFFC down in what is an already slow-paced book. I enjoyed the Cersei, Jaime, Sansa, and Arya chapters a lot though.

I liked her stories in the first book and some of the third, but they're among the worst. I just hope they don't really go back to Dany's POV and keep it with Tyrion once they unite.
And really, how much better would Dany's chapters be if they were instead from Jorah's and Barristan's POV? If I were to request a rewrite of the series, this is something I'd request of GRRM.

Same here. Dany's POV was at its best in AGoT. I also enjoyed the HotU chapter in ACoK and the Astapor chapter in ASoS. Other than that, yawn. The main POV characters, i.e. Jon, Tyrion, Jaime, Arya, even Sansa and Bran (I enjoyed Sansa's chapters in ASoS and AFFC and some of Bran's chapters are very insightful, i.e. Knight of the Laughing Tree), have better, more consistent chapters than Dany.

Arya warging the cat was pretty cool.

Yeah, I enjoyed the Arya in Braavos chapters. I think it's moreso the story and location of where Dany is in Essos--she's basically in the Middle East. The place to be in Essos is in the Free Cities.

I'm in my re-read of ASOS and I noticed something interesting. It seems the theory on this board is that Hoster Tully's mumbling on his death bed of the word "Tansy" seems to be a reference to a type of drink used to force his daughter Lysa to miscarry a potential child fathered by Littlefinger.
However, on a re-read of the Arya chapter in which her, Gendry, and the BWOB (Brotherhood with oversexed bitches ) visit Stony Sept, the location of the famous Battle of the Bells where Ned Stark and Robert Baratheon defeated the Mad King's army led by Jon Connington. Located in that village is a tavern/brothel called The Peach whose madam, I guess, is named Tansy.
Was Hoster getting a little Peach fuzz on his sideburns, so to speak?
Was Tansy involved in some kind of plot that Hoster should be ashamed of?
Is GRRM the kind of nefarious fat frick that would throw that obvious of a red herring out there for no reason?

but I think Arya is toast
Maybe, but it will be a while. I'm still holding out hope, although I think it's safe to say that she won't be anyone's wife. She'll use her skills as an assassin to come back and kill the people on her list. I just hope Martin puts her back with Nymeria. You think a Stark kid with a direwolf is badass? How about a Stark kid trained to kill who has a direwolf with an entire pack!?
As for skipping Dany's chapters in the reread, there's more to them than people would have you believe, although some of them can be boring as hell. The House of the Undying is a Dany POV and it is one of the most important chapters in the entire series.

I would argue that it's the only Dany chapter that you actually need to read.

. I'm in agreement that the HotU chapter is the most important Dany chapter/one of the most important prophecies/foreshadow devices in the whole series. Just wish the writers adapted it more faithfully in the show.
