You're not too far off but you're not exactly correct either.

I'm not telling.

The closest Littlefinger would likely get to the crown is on the Council via lands he may attempt to acquire through Sansa. And that's certainly no guarantee.
Sansa will take him out before all is said and done...
I'm convinced
I'm more than aware that Littlefinger will have his comeuppance since its really the only direction his story can go from here. I think he will greatly underestimate someone and this will lead to his destruction. Sansa is the likely choice. I'm thinking Littlefinger will off Robert Arryn and make it look like an accident, and this will be Sansa's seed for killing him, not to mention betraying her father which led to his death.

There's been some discussion on those things.
You could read them WHEN YOU FINISH A DANCE WITH DRAGONS.

He is too patient for that I think. He knows that the Vale Lords are all taking a very special interest in him and now that they are no longer at the Eyrie their actions will be easier to observe. If Robert Arryn was to die under any suspicion it would mean the death of Littlefinger as well. So just not worth it since Robert Arryn isn't likely to live to reach adult hood anyway.

Just tell me this: Is A Dance with Dragons an easier read than A Feast for Crows? I went through the first 3 in a month. A Feast for Crows took me that amount of time to finish.

Yes it is. AFFC is a tough read because of the timing. But ADwD is significantly quicker IMO.
And Cotton, ygm.

Which means it should be relatively easy to fake his death. Even if Littlefinger is not responsible for it, Sansa may think he is regardless.

Wait, fake whose death?
Robert's? Why? What would be the purpose there? I can think of no one that it would benefit to fake his death

Yeah, at the most Littlefinger would get the Vale and even that is questionable given the opinion the residents of the Vale have of him. He wouldn't hold it long.

AFFC is just tough because all the favorite characters are missing. If he would've done it chronologically, it would've been much better received IMO

True.

I was thinking along the lines of having Sansa marry Robert's cousin (name escapes me at the moment), and then revealing Sansa in order to make claim over the North and the Vale (and I guess Harrenhal as well) in one fowl swoop. It would require patience, but if Sansa became pregnant with Ned Stark's grandchild, Jon Arryn's nephew, Hoster Tully great grandchild, the men of the North, the Vale, and the Riverlands would likely swear some fealty to him.

Well yea thats his plan. He pretty much draws that out for us in AFFC. I still don't get where faking Robert's death comes into play.

Robert would be Lord of the Vale when he turns 16. He needs someone else as Lord of the Vale right?

Robert isn't likely to live till 16 anyway. He is growing weaker and his fits are more violent in AFFC. Hes not likely to live another 10 years. Thats not worth the risk at the moment considering that Littlefinger is already Lord Regent.

As Cotton said, he's banking on him dying a natural death.
I think his end game has less to do with the Game of Thrones and more to do with hitching himself onto Sansa because she's Cat's daughter.

Here's my newest theory after rereading:
Assuming that Cersei's life hinges on her trial by combat with Robert Strong as her champion battling the Faith's champion, Sandor, what if Sandor kills Strong, which results in Cersei's death, thus fulfilling the valonquar prophesy. The prophesy does not specify your valonqar, it says the valonqar.
Any takers? I'm sure this has already been thought of, so sorry if it's germans

"Gold shall be their crowns and gold their shrouds", she said. "And when your tears have drowned you, the valonqar shall wrap his hands about your pale white throat and choke the life from you."

Oh snap. And it's not Germans.
I could absolutely get behind this.

Hadn't heard that before but I like it.
