Me too. It is just the kind of thing GRRM would do. Set everything up to be her younger brother, and then have it be someone else's younger brother. Nice.

Oh god, yea. Feast was a chore. I enjoyed reading ADWD, I didn't even mind the Dany chapters that much.

Actually, having a break from Dany is a big plus for AFFC. I was always pretty bummed in ASOS when Dany and Bran's chapters popped up because I was ridiculously invested in all the others, but found Dany's to be simply ok and Bran's not entertaining at all. I honestly wouldn't care if they just left us to assume they died beyond the wall.

Dany chapters are very hit or miss in ADWD. Probably more miss, IMO. I actually skippered through most of them because they just simply didn't interest me. Some are really good though.

Dany's only good ADWD chapters are the last two.

They are certainly her best. I'll be honest in the middle of that book I almost started skipping her chapters. But I know she's going to be very important to the final story so I stuck it out

I can honestly say I hate Dany right now.

Her only redemption will be to get on that fricking dragon and wreck some shite already. And take your happy arse to Westeros.

If Drogon isn't feasting on some roast Dothraki in Dany's first fricking chapter....

I'm gonna murder a kitten preferably GRRM's kitten...

Does he have a kitten? Someone send him a kitten just in case.

You may have some of the same issues with ADWD then. I enjoyed Dany in ASOS a good bit, but her chapters in ADWD are freaking terrible. The last chapter or two provide some interesting moments, but Mereen as a whole totally sucks down ADWD. Outside of the Mereen chapters though ADWD is a much better book than AFFC. Not nearly as good as the first 3, but solid.

I didn't mind her so much as I was just ridiculously invested in the other chapters. I loved Arya's, Tyrion's, Jamie's, and Jon's stories. Sansa and and Catelyn (especially at the end) were good too. Dany's were still pretty good in that book, but not anywhere in the ballpark of those. However in ACOK, I despised her chapters, as well as Bran's. The only interesting thing with Bran's arc was when Theon entered the picture (who like Cersei, may be extremely unlikable, but really had some of the best chapters in the book). And I hear Dany has the most chapters of all the characters in the next novel, which is a slight buzzkill.

Mereen wasn't all bad. Barristan's chapters were fricking gold.

I just had a whole theory drawn out about Gendry being a legitimate Baratheon, rather than a bastard, only to realize in doing my resaerch that Cersei never had a first child that died in the books. frick you HBO. In the series, she tells Cat that she had a dark haired boy that died. My theory was going to be that this was Gendry, making him the rightful heir to Robert's kingdom. Oh well.

I went a long time after season 1 believing that Cersei actually had a child before Joffrey as well.

I tend to get my book and show facts confused from time to time.

Agreed, but that was included in the good couple chapters I was referring to. 80-90% of the Mereen chapters are complete garbage. And considering Mereen takes up a good quarter to a third of the book, that's not a good thing. I've read through ADWD three times total, and on the second and third times through I completely skipped all Mereen chapters but Barristan's.

The only chapters that I legitimately dreaded reading were Brienne's in AFFC. After reading that the Mereen chapters were cake.

You're right without a doubt. The vast majority of the mereen chapters have no redeeming qualities whats so ever.

Jon's chapters pretty much save the book and makes it rank a lot higher in my opinion than what it would without them.

I struggled through Feast my first time through but I'm on my first reread now (I've read the other ones 3 times and Dance twice, I've been putting off Feast for that precise reason) and I'm loving it. Feast is going to get a lot more love once the series is complete I think.

Yeah, the Reek and Jon's chapters pretty much make the book for me.
