re: Crackpot ASOIAF Theories SPOILERS

Ok, just saw my DVR caught a 15 min GOT: A Gathering of Shadows teaser - well really a review of S2 -

I have a mental woody. Can't believe S3 is here!!!!

ETA: I'm surprised that no one has mentioned the fact that House Baelish is cursed. We all know about it, but we like to fancy him a Lord of the Vale (temporary at that) via his, what? Stewardship? of The Eyrie...or that he will have Winterfell even (the-Highborn-to-be lil Rob in Jeyne Stark's womb will quash that pipe dream) not to mention his "Masterful" playing of The Game so far...none of it changes the fact that his Seat (DOOM) lies just off the God's Eye...and this voice from the grave (Her voice, coincidence?) serves to remind little-lord-Fauntleroy-finger just how dark Black Harran's shadow still is...

Geez,19. Why this sudden hate for LF?
My new CPT:

LF caused the war.

This spying little shit, rejected by Cat and humiliated by her betrothed, got wind of the hush-hush R+J. He may have even intercepted a raven's letter, or just claimed to have. Knowing how close Brandon and Lyanna were, LF knew Brandon would fly off hell bent for King's Landing if he thought his sister was being held against her will, and the Mad King would have Brandon exiled to the Wall or worse for the accusations against Rhaegar, and the Crown, by proxy. Leaving Cat unwed and available again.

Motive and opportunity.

A forged letter. An false eyewitness account of the abduction. Wouldn't take much to set the events in motion.
I won't say he expected war, that wasn't the result he was looking for.

He didn't get Cat either. He got something better: something he could be good at, something that gave his miserable life purpose.

Clumsy and dangerous, the kidnapping story was.
But hey,

...it was his first move in The Game.

re: Crackpot ASOIAF Theories SPOILERS

I'm wondering if we can use this as the defacto thread for discussion for those who are completely up to date on all books?

Cause I wanted to chime in the thread someone put about being gobsmacked by the RW but it seems like some in there may not have gotten through all the books so I decided not to risk it. What I wanted to ask is: So, where do whores go, anyway?

Oh, and I have the crackpot theory of all crackpot theories(I may have even thrown this one out waaayyy somewhere near the beginning of this thread).

It is: The White Walkers are really the good guys. They come around every couple thousand of years trying to instill progress and goodness and light only to be killed/driven off by the backwards humans with their magic and violence and those creepy little guys Bran has taken to hanging around with.

I don't think Littlefinger could have done this. He was like 14 during Robert's Rebellion. I just don't think he had the resources to do this.

Plus Lyanna was already betrothed, and Rhaegar already married. It wasn't up to them to marry each other.

Also I'm curious what yall think of this crackpot theory: Tywin was also one of the orchestrators of the Purple Wedding. It would have rid him of Tyrion without kinslaying, and Joffrey as someone who would without question ruin the realm, and Sansa had outlived her usefulness after the events of the Red Wedding. He was also saying that Joffrey needed a "sharp lesson".

Perhaps that was part of the deal Littlefinger had to make, in that they wouldn't tolerate Margaery marrying someone like Joffrey, and Tywin had to agree and let it happen, although he was more than happy to let it happen. That would allow Tommen to rule, who could easily be controlled and actually turned into a good king. Plus his monstrous son would either be executed or at the Wall, never to be heard from again.

I have thought that one too. Tywin had his hands in a lot of things and I think he was aware of what was happening with Joff since he truly saw what a miserable shite he was.

You really need to read up on some of the old R+L threads on Westeros...I assume too much is already known here, sometimes, so I'll share some detail -

Lyanna being betrothed was one of the reasons her and Rheagar snuck away...(many believe eloped, but that's not part of my theory)and many also believe the 'kidnapping' story was a cover - some even blaming it on Brandon to save shame on House Stark. There are mounds of evidence against her being taken against her will in any way, shape, or form.

As for Rhaegar being married:
Aegon I was a polygamist, and I'm quite sure that most of the assess to sit the Iron Throne weren't monogamous, or else the Blackfyre Pretenders never have existed. Given the long history of Targaryen obsession with "The Prophecy" Rhaegar taking a lover or even a wife in the pursuit of fulfilling it is not that much of a leap at all.

Having said that, What does R and L getting married have to do with anything I said about LF?

Do you know why Brandon Stark was able to get to KL with these accusations before word of this Kidnapping even made it to Winterfell?

Because he was at (or very near) Riverrun FOR HIS OWN betrothal when he found out. Who else was at Riverrun? A spurned LF with motive to have the wedding permanently postponed, as well as opportunity - he was still at Riverrun, having been fostered by Hoster Tully.

and LF being 14? too young to play the game?

Like Jaime being not only a knight, but appointed to the King's Guard at 15?

Or Rob Stark at 14 or 15 outsmarting Tywin Lannister at Whispering Wood and capturing Jaime in the process?

Pay attn to the books. Boys are considered men very, very early in Westeros.

Tywin and the PW.

Don't see it - having him the mastermind of both colored weddings?

Tywin is way too proud of the Lannister name and legacy to allow it become embroiled in a scandal of this magnitude. Joff's reign was already a debacle, (not to mention his parentage rumors!) and to not only prolong but amplify the public scrutiny of his dysfunctional offspring just doesn't jibe with Tywin's love of name and legacy. Besides, his style was always to show the blood on his underlings' hands, (Amory Lorche, Gregor Clegayne, Walder Frey, Roose Bolton, etc.) not the Lannisters.

Unless Tywin was blackmailed into it, which doesn't seem likely, either...unless someone had something really embarrassing on he, Tywin, PERSONALLY...like a truth/rumor of Tyrion's parentage. Tywin does love his first name more than his last.

Just speaking for me personally, but I don't think the Littlefinger theory would add much more to the story (again, for me) than just that R&L were too hot for each other to be detered by bethotals, marriages, etc but that Rhaegar still had some thoughts for Lyanna's "honor". And of course the old king's total madness played in the brewing winds of war in any event. Now if Robert had somehow known it was a voluntary arangement, that would be interesting!

"You raped her! You murdered her! You killed her children!"

God the Red Viper was such a great short-lived character, but like Ned Stark, his echo goes well through all the books. I was pumped that Tyrion was going down to Dorne to overthrow his father... But then it happened. Most intense chapter of any book I've ever read.

i remember i was sitting in the UL quad in between calc 3 and physics 2 summer classes when i was reading it. I was lounging on a bench, but as the intensity amped up, I sat up and read with anxiety. Ended up skipping physics and kept reading I wanted to throw the frickin book

You ain't kiddin.
Red Viper vs Gregor was one of those unfortunately rare instances where GRRM really showcases his writing chops. For me, it's right up there with the TOJ sequence.

Another that stood out (language/ writing wise) was when Brienne and Pod come upon the hedge knights on the road, and the one relays the hardship of war and its effect on the small folk / resulting in rogue knights. Very powerfully written, IMO.

Martin is a great storyteller, but these flashes of brilliance prove he is an author as well.

As far as weasels is concerned its hard to beat Janos Slynt. I'm starting to despise him more than Joffrey. Every single word that comes out of that twat's mouth, I want to kick his teeth in. He was so bad that Sansa wanted his whole family wiped out. I'm glad Jon Snow never took shite from that cocksucker, even when he was likely about to have Jon killed. Then Slynt goes out like the fricking pussy he is. He was without question the death I was happiest to see.
