They earned more votes than any other conference because they have won the NC by the help of a vote they already have had a majority in - that very vote which decides who plays for the NC - and so they deserve to get more help to get them back in the title game because they've won the most based on that help from the vote!

So it's circular. Gotcha.

yes, it is circular. it is an opinion poll and opinion polls are based on group-think and conventional wisdom.

FWIW before that bias was on the SEC's side it was on Southern Cal's side (from at least 2003-2005) but I doubt you had a problem with that

You always seem to defend any entity that doesn't happen to be from the south.

And in due time, the sentence above will no longer be true.

Kiffin is no Pete Carroll. You gotta play championship defense to win championships.

LSU had a kickass defense last season. Championship defense is good enough to win your Conference Championship; but not the National Championship.

You need offense, too. An offense good enough to put points up on a Championship defense.

Also, Pete was great for rebuilding SC, but as an in-game tactician, give me Kiffin any day. PC was responsible for one of the greatest LSU victories of all time (Stanford beating USC in 07.)

Which USC has NIETHER OF this season. Maybe in a couple years. SERIOUS. THIS year. LSU would SMOKE USC.Barkley has NEVER faced what he would see with THIS LSU D, and the LSU running game would eat USC up by the 4th Quarter.

That's why Bama won. We played a team that played real defense. Nobody else in college ball played defense the way they do.

I'm not so sure PJ. The more I see USC's defense develop (and it is a work in progress) the more I like it. They've been stonewalling the offense in practice, and that offense will put up a ton of points this season.

Coming into last season, OL was a concern, and it turned out OK. This season it was DL. They're performing better than expected (they're almost all RS FR & SO.)

For LSU, I feel if Mettenberger can keep defenses from loading the box then LSU can have a special season. The defense will be lights out as run stoppers, but will vulnerable against elite passing attacks.

Maybe, but you won't see a receiver corps like USC's got unless you play us this season.

I call it the 5-step rule. With METT the D has to drop back at least 5 steps. Think about it. That OPENS up a TON of chances for LSU to do whatever they want.It pretty amazing how DOMINANT LSU was last yera with basically ZERO passing game. AGAIN. Think about it.

To be fair, WE have NO CLUE how good LSU'S WR's are because of the weak play at QB last year.

Considering the stiffness of Pac 12 defenses, they should. They should face a better defense in practice every day than they should see on their conference schedule.
