Clocking in at a mere 22 minutes, this long-lost concert video goes by much too quickly, but fans of the Beach Boys will be delighted with the quality of the digitally mastered picture and sound, making this a worthwhile addition to any Beach Boys collection. The boys were taped live on March 14, 1964 as part of a concert that also included the Beatles and Lesley Gore. After the performances were aired on closed-circuit TV to theaters packed with screaming fans, the Beach Boys segment remained virtually unseen until it was rediscovered in 1998.
Cutaway shots provide a wonderful glimpse of what teen audiences were like during the heyday of the surfin' craze (plenty of Gidget hairdos, and a few parents in the crowd, marveling at the frenzy of it all), but it's the music that counts here, and clearly the boys were having a pretty good day. Most of the early hits are played here ("Fun, Fun, Fun," "Little Deuce Coupe," "In My Room"), and while lead vocalist Mike Love hams it up, it's fascinating to witness early indications that bandleader Brian Wilson was growing tired of live performance. He revs it up for a wacky cover of "Papa Oom Mow-Mow," though, and that makes this video a time-capsule treasure, showing the Beach Boys in their prime before Wilson retreated completely into the sanctuary of the studio.

Since when did the frickin’ trumpet players become the leader of this frickin’ band and decide how long they’re gonna hold a chord? What the frick do you think you’re doin’? You think you’re playin’ with some kid up there? I expect one-hundred-and-ten percent fricking perfection every frickin’ tune, you got that? If you can’t do it, get off my frickin’ band to-NIGHT! You had a day off yesterday and you come back like this and you suck! What the frick kind of music do you think you’re playing here anyhow? And who do you think you’re playing for? You think I’ll tolerate that shite? You’re worse than any frickin’ high school band I ever heard.

hell, I don't know. Phish is an crappy unoriginal American band so I guess you are posting unique and innovative bands. that's my guess.

It's actually pretty funny watching them playing some of these songs in the middle of the quad.

The Texas Tornados were a Tex-Mex roots music supergroup:
Freddy Fender was a cross-over success story around the world with hits like "Before the Next Teardrop Falls" and "Wasted Days and Wasted Nights".
Flaco Jiménez has played with acts ranging from the Rolling Stones to Dwight Yoakam. He also is known as the "Father of Conjunto Music" (Flaco plays the Conjunto accordion).
Augie Meyers, the virtuoso of the Vox organ, has shared the stage with the likes of The Allman Brothers Band and Bob Dylan. He's also a member of the Texas Music Hall of Fame.
The late, great Doug Sahm was the leader of the 1960s pop-rock band the Sir Douglas Quintet, with hits such as "She's About a Mover" and "Mendocino" to their credit. Meyers' signature sound on the Vox organ was a prominent feature of the band's sound. Sahm, Meyers and Jiménez are from the San Antonio area.
