What do you consider to be the perfect movie? It doesn't have to be your favorite movie, or even what you consider the greatest movie ever made.

Consider the different characteristics of the movie: cinematography, acting, story, musical score, etc.

After watching it recently, one that really stands out, IMO, is Pan's Labyrinth. I couldn't watch that movie every day and it isn't one of my favorites, but damn near everything was amazing about the movie.

The scenery, music, story, acting, etc., were all perfect, IMO.

Except for maybe the bottle not breaking when he beats that guy with it.

If taken together, the original Star Wars trilogy and Lord of the Rings trilogy

As single movies: ET, Raiders, A New Hope, TDK, TDKR, Last Crusade, first Pirates movie, Back to the Future 1, Anchor Man, Wag the Dog, Forest Gump, Saving Private Ryan, Caddyshack, Animal House, there aren't many but there's a few gems.

Once Upon a Time in the West

Story, script, characters, actor performance, sound track, lighting, set usage.

All movies should be judged on how closely it meets the levels set by this movie for film making.

I think Casablanca is pretty close. I finally saw it for the first time a year or two ago and was immediately mad at myself for never having seen it.

Once Upon a Time in the West and Ben-Hur - I find little fault in them.

My favorite movie is Saving Private Ryan.

But if I have to think of the 'perfect' movie, I'm probably going to go with the Godfather.

I agree. Part II is my favorite movie, but I would say The Godfather fits the bill for a perfect movie.

This thread is interesting. I'm ashamed to say that I've never seen Casablanca, Once Upon a Time in the West, and Ben-hur.

A movie night is a coming.

I love Part II, but I feel like they could have done a better job editing for sure.

All 3 are fantastic movies which deserve attention. The dialog of these 3 films make them all top-rated films, combine that with everything else, actor performance, lighting, set design, music - they are all must see films.

Also - I'm not sure how this suggestion will be received on this board, but I've always thought "Amistad" deserves to be considered a great film. <not sure if "perfect", but definitely a great film>

I do not see how most lay people would be qualified to judge these things. I do not even remotely know what movie has better cinematography or musical score than another.

This is the Movie/TV Board. Everyone here is basically Spielberg, Tarantino, Scorsese all rolled into one.

Get with the program.
