I know this quote has already been commented on more than once but this really is one of the most ridiculous sentences I've ever read.

What do you really expect 193 year old Joe Paterno to do about this all?

probably not try to cover it up in 1998, like the report states.

Something tells me his son knew nothing of it, so I can understand a son not believing that his notably moral father wasn't capable of this. It's not like Dottie who hear god knows what in the basement. I'll just ignore Jay.

Jay probably knew about this for years and is nothing more than his fathers personal Baghdad Bob

I seriously doubt it. Why would his father tell his son that he's enabling a monster? It's not as if he'll supposedly inherit it one day (although he did). Granted its possible that after the fact Joe told his son, but before October, I seriously, seriously doubt he knew.

Doesn't matter what Jay thinks or says, because most everyone else thinks differently....Even the Nike dude has backtracked on his JoPa can do no wrong stance.

I am not convinced of that. ESPN poll last night in the midst of the story showed that slightly more than 50% voted to keep the JoPa statue on campus. Some of that is quite telling.

We don't know the dynamics in the family, but one of the sons is an atty & he seems like mite have been the one to speak for the family & try to look at it from a purely legal aspect. But, personally, I don't fault any son for taking up for his dad, especially with the dad dying only mths ago; however, a no comment would have been the best response under these circumstances. You know ESPN pushed hard to get the interview.

I seriously doubt Joe Paterno would tell anyone he was enabling a monster, he didn't see it that way. He had rationalized to himself that he was doing a good deed to protect his football program. But anyone with a shred of intuition that was close to the situation could see with their very own eyes what was going on. Denial and complacency was probably Jay's way of dealing with what he knew or suspected. Whatever was going on had JoePa's blessing, so it must be OK, right? Jay probably had the expectation(along with his father and every one else involved) that this would stay swept under the rug.

Jay is standing tall as the president and spokesman for the quickly shrinking "JoePa still can do no wrong" club.

Millen should be fired ASAP! He was a decent player and sucked AT EVERYTHING ELSE HE HAS DONE SINCE!

Now he's making excuses for these perverted motherfrickers who committed serial criminal offenses in the name of money and records.

They just can't admit that their idol covered for a pedophile so he could keep raping children. They can't wrap their mind around that. They refuse to believe it when it's right there In front of their face.

I think that's right but in fairness to PSU I think that's also why so many cases of child molestation go unreported. People just don't want to believe there could be child abuse of this nature going on.

The whole scandal is so icky and gross that it (thankfully) is outside most of our experiences; most of us are never faced with how we would confront the scenario of a loved one being a predator in real life.

And don't forget this: JoPa, knowing what he knew, still wanted to coach the rest of the season. That shows you just how delusional he really was.

I agree, but it isn't just PSU fans as any fanbase in America would react the same way to such a figurehead.

You are right...the many good people of Penn State nation are acting like any fan base would. This is hard to believe, hard to get your arms around. They don't want to believe a conspiracy to cover-up really went on. Denial for a while is normal

re: Jay Paterno basically said the Freeh report is nonsense

I am not reading the entire report.

What is the POLICE involvement and blame in all of this? 1998 a report/charges were filed by the first mother to come forward? Am I correct?

Not Joe Pa's job to make a citizens arrest. HOWEVER I am not defending what was done. The PSU brass were fricking awful and ignorant. This is a bad combination. To allow this to continue is beyond ridiculous. But more IGNORANT than awful I feel was the decision to not just come clean and run away from Sandusky is what I cannot wrap my head around.

Why not just make a statement in 1998 OR 2001? "These charges are alleged and we are cooperating with authorities. We are suspending Sandusky's access to facilities pending the outcome of a CRIMINAL investigation." They could have been done with this and it would have been newsworthy for about a month, over a decade ago. They would have looked like victims as well. Not as bad as "ass-raped victims", but victims as well. Who were just duped by a predator.

The pow-wow that took place among all of these educated individuals amazes me.

- stop coming to my football building OR
- stop bringing them little kids to my football building OR
- stop showering with them little kids in my football building OR
- if you gonna shower with them little kids in my football building don't frick them OR
- WTF brah why the frick you showering with little kids?
