The Mavericks have chosen to use their amnesty clause to sever ties with center Brendan Haywood, who played with the team for two and a half seasons. The team will still owe Haywood the remainder of the money due on his six-year, $55 million extension signed in 2010.
The Mavericks will use their amnesty clause on center Brendan Haywood, SportsDay's Eddie Sefko has learned.
The move will sever the Mavericks' ties with Haywood, though he will still receive the remainder of the money owed to him on the six-year, $55 million extension he signed prior to the 2010-11 season. His salary will no longer count against the Mavericks' cap number, however.
The move comes on the heels of the news that the Mavericks are near an agreement for a one-year deal with free agent center Chris Kaman, who figures to take over the starting center role for the Mavericks next season.
Haywood, 32, averaged 5.2 points and 6.0 rebounds in 21.2 minutes per game last season.

Those muthafricks just got a lot better! They arent what the wanted to be but cuban and ricky c are better with puzzles than most. If they get a decent pg or sg they'll be happy considering...!

Two 7ft guys who excel on offense!!! They'll need to add a defensive big body for rotation though.

Making it seem a little more dramatic than it is eh?
That is like calling me a 0 year old.

They traded for Darren Collison.
As for people in here talking about Brand, Mavs are aggressively going after him.

well....there you have it!! they are not finished either. this team will surprise people.

They went from having nothing for next year, to looking like a pretty decent deep team. They got Dahntay Jones in that Collison trade also. Only gave up Mahinmi, who can be replaced by Brendan Wright and hopefully Brand.

isnt jones a pretty good defender? brand is a good fit there but they should still look for a body banger with some height.

Yep, and I think he can knock down open 3's also.
Brand is short, but he is thick, and I think he can bang with bigger guys for the minutes he will play. And Wright is a great weak side shot blocker, which would help Brand. Plus, they have that dude from the military they drafted that can probably fill that role for a couple minutes per game.

damn this will be a very good one year wonder squad

They pretty much built the same kind of team that won the title. The big difference is an offensive center instead of a defensive center. But I think their perimeter defense will help Dirk and Kaman's defense.
If things fall apart, they can start unloading their expiring contracts lol.

yeeeeeap! good thing for them is that the whole snub job from dwill and dwight will die out pretty soon and the team will be like the spurs in good play and no hype distractions.

Damn. Great get by the Mavs. F Cuban.
Kaman is a legit starting C. I still don't understand why we didn't try harder to keep him.

Really? Collison is a legit young, starting PG. Kamen is a way above average C. Dallas is really good now.

"Partnering up with @swish41 and heading to the Mavs........," Kaman tweeted. " I want to say thanks to the Hornet fans for all the support, even though our marriage was a short one!!!
"I do love Texas guns laws tho! Pretty excited......," Kaman added on Twitter.

Between this and Heywood's deal, Dallas will NOT be bidding on Brand.
Not true. ESPN dallas reporting that the Mavs will amnesty Haywood and should lead in the bid for Brand.
