We have lunch at Babbo and dinner at Eleven Madison Park. We need another lunch and dinner. We are staying at the Waldorf Astoria so dinner near there would be nice. Or down in Soho area. Thinking about Katz or Eatily.

Happy hours at nice bars?

Looking for bouligny tavern or the sazerac style bars. Vinyl spinning and good Scotch and gin martinis would be nice.

Definitely do Eataly, Katz is kind of touristy. Penrose on the UES is a cool bar. There is a dba like the one on Frenchman St. in New Orleans, in the East Village. My style for bars in NYC is more laid back than nice or upscale.

eta: Bowery Diner for brunch, their bourbon milkshakes are awesome, along with the rest of the menu. The only signage is a neon sign that says "diner" its, aptly enough next to the bowery hotel on bowery.

Not overly familiar with what a sazerac bar is, but check out Little Branch. It's in West Village and you can't even tell it's a bar.

Little Branch

nymag is so crucial for NYC trips.

Had dinner last Tuesday night at NoMad. Excellent. Eleven Madison Park dishes but much more affordable. Not cheap, but not an 11 course tasting menu. Good drinks too.

Had the roasted chicken for two. Whole bird with a foie gras brioche stuffing just under the skin. Brought out whole to view and then back to kitchen to plate. Dark meat is deboned and fricasseed with Madeira and mushrooms. Breast is plated. Best restarant chicken I have ever had.

Others had the pork and the scollops and raved about both. It is large for a NYC place and decor is luxe. Google the NYT review from a few weeks ago.

That said, we always go back to Minetta Tavern. You can't beat the atmosphere and the food is great. Excellent bartenders and servers. Best Blood and Sand in the city. The steak can't be beat.

Il Bucco on Bond is a great choice. Doesn't get much press but really good Italian.

If you want to try the latest scene, try to get into Mission Chinese on Orchard. I promise you have never had Chinese like this. Kung Pow Pastrami, Monkfish Liver Sashimi, free keg beer while you wait! And you get a free show with all the hipsters.

Edited to add Silver Lining on Murray in Tribecca. Jazz club in the basement of a townhouse. Same owners as Little Branch. Fun place, good cocktails.

TA if you're up for an intimate dinner with some fantastic home cooked french food I can heartily recommend La Sirene on Broome St. while you're in Soho. It's best for dinner and it's BYOB so bring a nice bottle of wine and enjoy. Not glam but genuine, relaxed and the meals I've had there were fantastic. Walking in the door the first time I ever went there the smells I encountered made me know I would love this place.

Nice. I had never heard of this. I'm a big Little Branch fan. My favorite of the NY "speakeasy" bars.

Katz is a cool experience but I don't care for the monstrosity of a sandwich they give you. I prefer the sandwiches and other food at Russ & Daughters which is just down from Katz.

Eataly is an interesting. In only walked around the main floor then had lunch at the rooftop bar Birreria. Menu here

My office used to be at Grand and Broadway so I lunched a lot in SoHo. Some of my favorites in that area:

David Burke Kitchen
Balthazar
Rice
Ed's Lobster Bar
Spring Street Natural
La Esquina
Calexico Cart (roving food truck that sets up around that area often)
Tiny's Giant Sandwich Shop

You also have Lombardi's which may be the best pizza on the island.

Last time I was up there in June I dined at Public on Elizabeth St. Wrote a review here.

Btw, If you're into craft beer I can make plenty of recommendations.

Been there a couple times. Once for the LSU alumni crawfish boil. It's alright. Wasn't impressed with the food when I dined there, but a cool spot. The crawfish boil was a lot better when it was at The Frying Pan. Which is a cool bar to have a drink and grab a burger. Right on the river.
