re: I 70 in CO is closed ***Updated with Pics***

My home is good right now. Closest fire is about 30 miles from me.

You should seriously look into the Telluride and Ouray areas. It is fire free right now and my favorite place in the state. My family and another will be Jeeping tbere for the fourth.

This fire could clear up by then, and all that could be open and you'd never know about Waldo Canyon. But, the Flying W Ranch right next to Garden of the Gods is burning, and Manitou Springs (Pikes Peak Cograil) is evacuated.

Wow I just got word from my night hand that the fire I was taking pics of has exploded and is on the edge of the town of De Beque. He said it looks as if the town will be engulfed. I noticed the winds picked up right after I left it. There were cops and ems driving extremely fast headed tbat way.

This sounds bad.

All that stuff is closed, and in danger of being consumed by fire. I would definitely come up with an alternative plan, just in case.

I had a vacation planned up there third week in July. Not looking good either. The Colorado denizens of our family are in the Denver Metro area, so they're safe, but the plan was to hit the Rockies for 4 days.

I have to travel back to the area tomorrow and will have updates. I was just discussing the alternate routes up the mountain with my co worker. I expect De Beque to be off limits.

My night hand thinks the town of De Beque is definitely going to burn.

The scary thing is this fire is about to enter a producing natural gas field.

Holy shite the fire near my work went from 1500 acres to 10,000 acres in the past hour. That is incredible.

Wow sorry to hear man. Where is your place?

My wife and I are discussing what we need to load up should it reach that point for us.

Just got word I'll be doing wild fire training this weekend, and possibly taking a group of Soldiers from FT Carson to try and contain some of these fires on Sunday. My first question: what's up with the National Guard here in Colorado? The locals say this fire season isn't the worst they have seen...

I was just reading that part of the local firefighter's training is to know about any oil and gas wells and compressor stations. I'm sure they will make you aware, but this Pine Ridge fire is already burning through natural gas wells and will soon enter an area with many more.

Get off at the Powderhorn exit and instead of heading up the mountain you will have to take the De Beque cutoff.

Be careful on that De Beque cutoff. It is an open range and there are some really nasty curves on it.

Redstick13, any updates? I heard that some evacuations were lifted today. Things seem to be getting better.
