Just curious, but was he recruited by any other schools to play baseball? Or was he dead-set on walking on at LSU for football and baseball?

I always said he should give up football and focus mainly on baseball. Baseball is his best chance on actually getting to play for LSU, but to say he would start as a true freshman is ridiculous.. Kid is good though for sure

eta. and he had a 3.97 not a 4.0 lol

Rantz just mentioned him after coaching him in this past weekend on Sports Today as a CF that will have a big impact on next yr's team.

If you are a High School player I would expect you not to have a clue about if he would start next year. He will be the starting center fielder.

I hope the kid is that good, but it's not usual to see true a true frosh come in and start day 1. It can take some time to settle in to college ball.

Can anyone answer me question from above: was he recruited by any other schools to play baseball? Or was he dead-set on walking on at LSU for football and baseball?

Seems a bit odd this kid slid under the radar the entire time, unless he was just dead-set on walking on for football or something. Surely, a NSU, McNeese or SLU would've thrown a scholarship at him.

He came to LSU because he knew you could teach him how to hit since you know so much about hitting.

For a moment, I'll ignore the fact that you are laughing at your own joke. I see you are still try to make me look bad even though you're the one with the reading comprehension problem. Another failed flame, Bernie. At some point, I'd suggest you give it up unless you'd like for me to run some more circles around you and your stupid logic.

I am in college, not a high school player.

And i think you believe I am saying he isnt talented enough or something of that sort? Let me explain why I dont think he will be the starting center fielder from day 1 like you seem to think.

I believe Mark Laird is a great kid, and athlete. He runs a legit 4.5 (possible high 4.4) and can hit very good, although not for power. I think he graduated OCS with a career avg close to .500 which is very good, even though they hardly ever faced legit pitching he did prove his hitting abilities at the tournament you mentioned in the OP. But we return the whole starting outfield that we had on last years team, which just so happened to win the SEC. Raph and Katz are definitely not losing their spots to Mark, even though Katz could POSSIBLY move to 1st base. Our center field position is a question because Arby Fields fricking blows, but at the same time Sciambra or whatever his name is scheduled to return by next season and from what I remember he was pretty good when he played. I do believe he could eventually start at LSU, and get some playing time during his freshman year and hopefully take over but to say he is going to be the starting center fielder from day one (especially with the fact that he wasn't even offered a scholarship by the coaching staff until recently according to you and nobody else) is a ridiculous statement.

and on another note.. I honestly don't know much about his recruitment by other schools but I know his girlfriend, and I'm pretty sure he had planned on going to LSU the whole time because thats where she goes and it is possible he told other schools he had no intentions of going anywhere else.. but that is all just speculation

Bernie go home!

I don't know anything about this guy (laird). I have never seen him play. If someone can answer the question JoeX3 asked I would also like to here the answer as well.

Jo,I don't like guys talking out of their arse about coaches when they are not at practice to see what the coaches are teaching. Why don't you start a thread explaining each Tiger hitters' flaws and explain how you would correct them?
Back to Laird, this kid could play for any school in the state.Tops will pay his tuition. The few hundred dollars per semester part of a scholarship would give him is not enough to deter him from coming to LSU. His family can afford the board and books. He can cover more ground than any out fielder LSU has now.

Very intelligent and thought out response.

You neither acted like a douche or tried to demean the OP, which you certainly could have.

Bravo

He was invited by PM,so since he gets paid to evaluate players,I will trust his judgment.I can assure you,he can play at Tech or ULM next year.

What the f*ck does that have to do with anything I posted in this thread? If you're going to act like a little girl and follow me around TD because you have some type of internet grudge over a criticism I made of the LSU baseball team and/or the coaches in an entirely different thread, then I suggest you seriously consider getting a f*cking life. Because, as of right now, you're an incredible waste of skin and organs who just so happens to be lucky enough to live in a 1st world country where even the biggest idiot can access the Internet at a reasonable price.

And just for the record, I, along with numerous other people I know, went to multiple practices this season.

I am not wanting to hear the answer so I can use it to bash the kid. I don't freaking know. Seems like a straight up question that has a simple answer.

This whole thread needs to be deleted and started over. I clicked on the link and someone post a comment about laid which got me hopeful and excited that LSU baseball might finally be getting some great hitters to go with our pitching. And since that post all I have read is crap about what the OPer named his son.

Screw all yalls stupid little clicks and slights and petty bickering. That crap doesn't belong on this board and by the time the post got moved here it was too freaking late. sigh
