The Flavor you can get from the egg is amazing. It is truly a difference maker.

I have a feeling this is gonna be a lengthy thread.
probably. cooking meat is serious business.

i like both methods about the same, but i don't like how much more time i have to use with charcoal. when i grill for my family, it's a pretty big deal so i am liable to have 3 hours tied up in prep time alone. i don't like adding to it.

I own both because there are gas grill items, and there are coal/wood items. I will never cook a steak over charcoal again unless I'm camping. Same for burgers, dogs, brats, sausage or chicken breasts.

My coal "grills" are for ribs, brisket, clods, butts etc.

Like the poster said above, get a ceramic cooker. I bought a kamado joe about 8 months ago and I absolutely love it. It makes cooking really good food, really easy, and I like the flavor using char wood with no chemicals gives the food.

absolutely nothing.. my green egg is probably the best cooking related purchase i've ever made. there is a pretty large contingent on the food and drink board though that thinks those of us who cook on them have choosen to waste our money on a "gimmick"

Grilling to me is kind of an event. Type of coals is important and it is supposed to take time. Gas grilling is much quicker IMO, but it actually takes away from my experience. Just my opinion.

If you're gonna cook on a gas grill just cook inside. Charcoal is the only way to go and Weber makes a great grill.

That's why I am thinking maybe getting both and just upgrading the charcoal grill. Sometimes during the week I just don't have time for charcoal grilling, so Gas would come in handy. However on weekends when I have time, I like to have people over and we can all shoot the shite around the grill, and have a few beers etc.

the leg work & when everyone is as quiet as church mice because they are cramming food down their mouth is where i get my jollies. i guess, for me, the prep work is more like 'practice', the grilling is 'the game' and the meal itself is the 'post-game camaraderie'. i always enjoyed the buildup/postgame more than playing the actual game.

I have a combo gas and charcoal grill and use both sides at the same time on occasion. And I love it but mostly use the gas side most times.

I hate those. One of my best friends is a wrestler, used to wrestle for WWF, WCW, and a couple more. He loves to give me a chop every once in a while.

I read a review on them somewhere... Cant remember the site but they had some issues with it. I wanna say the hardware was very questionable and the ceramic was pretty thin... Save an extra $200 and get a green egg or primo.

I am more of a cooking kind of guy and think the actual meal itself is a bit anticlimactic. I get more socializing done cooking than eating. I usually am full before the whole meal is prepared anyway....

Have both. Gas grill when I'm lazy and just trying to get by. Weber when I really want to enjoy cooking and eating good BBQ.
