The trick I learned is finding games your kids like to watch you play, like BF, my daughter (almost 6) just wants me to kill the bad guys or kill dragons if I'm playing Skyrim, which is the game she prefers.
My son (almost 2) just likes to blow shite up and rathers me play BF..he gets bored with the other ones.

My daughter and I play portal 2 together, she is however amazed watching me play portal.

My son is 7 months old. He loves watching me play NCAA Football and Braid. He just quietly stares at the TV when I play, hell he can be in his jumperoo and he'll turn his head to look at the TV when I'm playing.
