We've gotten our two lottery picks already.
And considering we never really had EG last year, I kinda feel like we're getting 3 new lottery players this year. But then again, I'm an optimist.

We know we've got at least two very good young players coming in. I'm saying, the team makes the playoffs rather comfortably with a sixth or seven seed. Am I delusional?
I wouldn't say delusional, BUT we're not the only team trying to get better in the Western conference. We will be better by leaps an bounds, but this team has to learn how to win before we claim playoff spots.
Portland will be better, Minnesota will definitely be better, and Houston will make some moves in the offseason. Don't get me wrong I want the team to compete for a playoff spot, but I also wouldn't mind picking up another first rounder in next years draft if we didn't make the playoffs.

I agree 6th or 7th seed.
I still think it would be amazing to see how quick and unprecedented our turnaround could be if we sold the farm and acquired either Brandon Jennings or Rudy Gay with that 10th pick an matching salary - but I know that's not the prudent move.

we'll be like houston-ish.
For like one year until AD develops into an All Star.
Houston has been Houston for about 7 out of the past 8 years. That's miserable.

Agreed. It's disappointing to see so many short-sighted fans.
I'm hoping management either trades up to secure a potential 'Big 3,' or trades down in order to build a better core in the following draft(s).

Since we already have 2 of the 3 in place would you be opposed to acquiring a proven piece like Brandon Jennings or Rudy Gay?

It's not like we're going to be at our peak next season. If we make the playoffs, it will be with Gordon (23), Davis (19), #10 pick (young), Vasquez (25), Aminu (21), and Smiht (26 but still improving) being major parts of the team. Ariza, Okafor, and Jack are the only older players on the team with no room to improve, and in two years when those young guys are hitting their stride, those three will be coming off the books.
Houston is completely different with their main guys of Camby, Delamber, and Scola being over 30 and Martin being turning 30 midway next season. Their young guys (Budinger, Patterson, and Lowry or Dragic, 14 and 16) are pretty solid but I'd much rather what we have, especially since I have higher hopes than most for Vasquez.

Hoping that our #10 can be the third member of our Big Three. If not I'm kinda hoping that we get another lottery pick.

Not at all.
One of my main concerns at this point is that the Hornets utilize the tenth pick on a player who is not great enough to make a significant difference going forward but is good enough to take us out of a lottery position. If the player we need doesn't fall to us at 10, it seems like it'd be beneficial to trade it for a first round pick in the following draft.

but if we don't suck, we'll basically cut out off ability to acquire talent for 2 years
sure we'll improve. then you can replace houston with atlanta

So wait . . . are people already suggesting that the Hornets tank next season?
I'm sure that's not what some of you mean, but, likewise, I think you're misinterpreting what the optimists mean to say. I'm merely suggesting that a healthy roster plus 2 or 3 significant additions make this team much, much better. You guys can't seriously be suggesting that making the 6th through 8th spot next season means we're doomed, right?

Apparently no one remembers the Thunder's rise to power.....
8th seed, lost in a tough 1st round series
4th seed, lost in WCF
2nd seed, will probably win it all
I don't see how with the young talent we are about to have people can't imagine this happening to us.
Just because you are an 8th seed one year doesn't mean you are stuck there

Making the playoffs next year is somewhat irrelevant. Establishing a young core that will enable the Hornets to contend for the WCC on an annual basis should be the ultimate objective. And it's certaintly possible that the Hornets will make the playoffs next year in spite of not realizing that objective.

The team is too talented to tank its way into a significantly higher draft spot. I was pro tank last year when it was clear that Gordon was going to miss most of the season, but now it's time to start putting it together. After getting Gordon back + Davis + whomever at the 10th + all of our backups getting a ton of experience last season and playing well, expecting them to throw games is absurd, especially since throwing games is likely going to come at the expense of developing Davis and #10.

Our record next season is irrelevant. Doesn't matter if we're in the lottery or not, so long as we realize a core of young players capable of transforming the team into an annual, legitimate contender.
if the Hornets don't realize the necessary players for that core in this year's draft AND don't have a lottery pick next season, it will be very difficult going forward to establish that core. Correct?

So what's your point. Everyone knows the team is a couple of years away (at least) from a championship, and no one here is satisfied with the 6 - 8 seed as the ultimate goal. Most posters here understand that it takes patience to build a team, and they understand what it takes.
Where the frick are these people coming?
Posted on 6/10/12 at 6:40 pm to LSUlunatic
Our record will be FAR from irrelevant, especially if Gordon signs his qualifying offer rather than an extension. It will have a pretty large bearing on both fan and player/front office morale. If we don't have the insane injuries we had last season and still only win 30 or so games, it's going to bring up some major questions as to how great our coach and GM really are. If we suck again, it's going to affect what kind of free agents we can lure in 2013.
With my expectations of the team playing near .500, I don't really see the big difference in missing the playoffs and getting the 12th pick as opposed to making the playoffs and getting the 16th or so pick. And if we end up winning a playoff series, I don't see how anyone could have a problem with that after drafting first the year before.

they have KD, and we have nobody close to that
then they hit a homerun with westbrook and ibaka
then they hit another with harden
