What the frick? Hawk is awesome. I love listening to him calling a game. It is refreshing to hear someone different who says whatever is on his mind.
Agreed. Love Hawk. Why do people give him shite for being a homer? He's an employee/fan of the White Sox. If he thinks the umpire blew the call, he's going to say something. Yeah he was wrong in this case, but it was still entertaining as hell. Harry Caray's drunk arse was no different in terms of being a homer, yet he's revered (Harry was great too imo).
Somehow I think Hawk reacted that way for show because Tom Paciorek was filling in for Stone. Back in the day, Hawk and Wimpy called games more like two superfans in a basement than they did a professional broadcasting team.

I agree with the announcer. That was a horrible call to throw him out like that. Even if people think the announcer is wrong what he said was really not bad by any means.

I think it would be a sad day, indeed, if there were no homer announcers. World Series, or playoffs on a national network, by all means get clinical or "objective." But on a local broadcast or cablecast? I want local talent. It will be a sad day, not that I've heard him recently, at the end of this year when Milo Hamilton finally retires from the Astros.
Vin Scully and Ernie Harwell were notable exceptions, but are/were SO incredible....

There are plenty of guys that somehow manage to be professional and pull for their team.
Get excited when your team makes a big play, scores a big run, etc. But keep it professional otherwise.

The White Sox pay his salary. He's supposed to be homer.
FWIW, the Rays announcers are the worst announcers in the majors.

Ive hated the Hawk ever since we traded Rocky Colovito for him and he sucked then decided he wanted to be a professional golfer!

Given the circumstances the call was definitely justified.

Because he's fricking obnoxious. His exaggeration of every little thing is annoying. "stay in the air, keep going, YOU CAN PUT IT ON THE BOARD YYYEEEAHHHHHUUUUSSS!"
Every time a white sox player is running to first, is clearly out and he's like "run, come on, bust it, SAFE, YEEAAAAHHUUSS, oh they called him out"

Ding, ding, ding. Houston, we have a winner.

Vin Scully is paid by the Dodgers but he's the most knowledgable guy in the world when it comes to anything about any team. The White Sox twat is just a loud mouth fan with a microphone.

They're 4th in my book.
1. White Sox
2. Red Sawhks guy
3. Nationals
4. Tampa Bay

Sounds like he should be on ESPN

I love Hawk. I wish more announcers would be this energetic. I don't get hating him for being a homer. He works for the White Sox.
Posted on 6/2/12 at 2:18 pm to IgotKINGfisherSpeed
I don't think being a homer is the problem with him, most announcers who work for the team are homers to some degree. But do we really need to hear "HE GONE!" 27 times a game? Save it for the big outs.
Posted on 6/2/12 at 2:19 pm to motorbreath
I thought "he gone" was only for strikeouts...
Posted on 6/2/12 at 3:53 pm to bddwolfpack
Yeh-he just did "He gone" and "grab some bench" on the same strikeout of a Mariner player. Very childish.
He also sounds like an 8 year old when he says "Good guys 2, Bad guys 0" or whatever the score happens to be.

FWIW, this started in the early 90s after the Sox moved into new Comiskey and their slogan was "Good Guys Wear Black". It was all over tshirts, press releases, the scoreboard, etc., so it kind of stuck. Hawk isn't the only Sox announcer to have said it.
