You realize that the Individual Mandate, which is the center piece of so-called "Obamacare" is a right wing creation, right?

It was the Heritage Foundation that initially conceived the idea in 1989. The CATA Institute performed studies and published a policy paper in support of the individual mandate in 1994.

In 1993, it was REPUBLICANS who introduced legislation that would impose an individual mandate. Interesting enough, Obama opposed the individual mandate as recently as 2008; I see his acceptance of it now as a form of compromise in order to get SOMETHING done on the health insurance front.

But what Individual Mandate is, always has, and always will be a pro-business initiative. In particular, it caters to the insurance industry.

But don't let facts get in the way of your diatribe.

Yes, but it was created for the purpose of things like smoking tobacco and drinking alcohol. Things that are proven beyond a shadow of a doubt to cause not only several different kinds of cancer but also a multitude of OTHER health problems.

It's the left wing that is turning it back and using it for shite that it was never designed to do.

LOL WUT???

Do you even think before you type?

Requiring everyone to buy insurance in order to reduce the price of insurance = requiring everyone to buy insurance in order to reduce the price of insurance.

How is this suddenly "the left wing turning it back and using it for shite it was never intended for"?

What the frick does that even mean?

Wow. You really are dense.

What is currently called "Obamacare" IS THE MANDATE THAT I POINTED OUT THAT WAS CREATED BY THE RIGHT WING.

The mandate and the current healthcare law ARE THE SAME THING.

we are talking about 2 different things then. I thought you were referring to the legislation that was passed a long time ago that allowed the regulation and taxing on tobacco and alcohol because of its detrimental health effects.

I have no idea what its name was, if it had a name, and therefore thought thats what you were speaking of

Regardless, taking away my right to choose how much fricking Coke I drink is stepping across a line that once crossed, will disappear forever.

How are doctors taking a salary cut when more people have health insurance?
because the insurance the government wants to provide won't pay the amount the doctors want to charge and have been charging, you ever wonder why doctors don't accept some types of insurances?

I'm not sure how you got that out of my specifically talking about the health insurance mandate, but whatever.

Even if this asinine measure passes (I think we can agree that it's a foolish piece of legislation), I don't think that it will be as big of an impact as you think.

Can't buy a 64oz coke? Fine. Buy 2 32s. No biggie.

I find it more intrusive that certain states have laws that say that you can't buy a pitcher of beer unless you have two or more people with you. Granted, I don't have that problem very often because most of the time I'm drinking something that you would never put in a pitcher.

Just as the government isn't providing automobile insurance when they mandate that you have auto insurance, the government isn't providing insurance under the Affordable Care Act.

so you saying the government mandate won't affect what insurance companies will pay for or their rates?

Insurance companies don't pay rates. Consumers do.

And as the Heritage Foundation, CATO Institute, and other studies have shown, requiring everyone to have insurance actually lowers rates. When you spread the risk and GET RID OF THE MOOCHERS who use the ER as their primary care doctor, the consumer actually pays less.

Insurance works by spreading the risk with more people buying into it.

Yeah, New York is a ghost town these days.

Dumbass.

New York is rapidly losing population due to high taxes & costs associated with them. If you need a few hundred cites, google "New York City losing population."

Dumbass

Because I think the post you responded to when you brought it up was where I was bitching about that particular practice

Well, car insurance hasnt gone down so what makes you think health insurance is going to?

The money grab that city does to its citizens is amazing. Nyc not only fricks them but every single one of you rubes that go up there and over pay for simple items gives them a ton of money. Record intake of income record deficit and no improvements. Awesome city

There should be government regulation on the amount of sugar and sodium added in the manufacture of processed foods.

If people want extra sugar or salt they should have to willingly and purposefully go to a grocery store and purchase those fatty flavor additives.
