I'll try to do the same for guards and wings soon.

I'll be honest, as awesome as it would be to get Davis, I will not be mad if T.Rob ends up being the guy we end up with.
It's seems to me that Rebounds tend to translate to the NBA as well as any other stat out there. Kevin Love, Dejuan Blair, and now Kenneth Faried all guys who were really effective college rebounders.

A real basketball post on Hornet Talk?
Well done.
I don't think blocks are overrated though. The mere threat of a shot blocker changes the way an offense operates. At the absolute worst a blocked shot is the equivalent of a missed shot, regardless of who retains possession. Toss in the fact that it changes possession sometimes and affects the way offenses operates and I'd say it's not overrated. If they were overrated then the whole world wouldn't be on Davis's nuts.

This.
Shots altered is a really important stat but not something that is widely kept up with. A guy that is "known" as a shot blocker but still racks up blocks like Davis is being very efficient in their shot blocking oppurtunities. Not too many people challenging him down low after one or two shots get stuffed back down their throats.

shot blockers change how the offense acts too.

A block does not equal good defense.
not always...but another player like t rob could be playing great defense, and not be able to stop a guy from finishing over him

A shot blocker is nice, but he also needs to be able to rebound to be useful. Some shot blockers actually make it easier on the offense as they're constantly out of position. Tyson Chandler is the best defensive center in the league and isn't known as a shot blocker.
Tell me, who is the best shot blocker in the NBA?

Hassan Whiteside? Screw these per 40 projections. He actually averaged 5.4 blocks in 26 minutes per game. Maybe Demps can trade a 2nd for him rather than use our 1st pick on Drummond.

I think the biggest problem is that the stat itself is flawed. Blocks obviously are useful and the threat of a block can be huge. But not every block has equal value, so just recording the number of blocks doesn't tell the whole picture. There need to be stats for something like Altered Shots and Block Result, which focuses on the offensive team's possession ending.

Orlando Johnson stood out at the predraft workout in Jersey.

Owens was followed closely by Orlando Johnson at 34 inches. Johnson may have had the best all-around showing of any prospect in New Jersey, considering his strong measurements (6-11 wingspan) and the terrific scoring instincts he displayed in the five on five action.
