Not the tourney nor the cause I have issues with.

Just signed up. Now that I got my boat in good-running order I plan on doing a lot more fishing this year. I'd be sick to my stomach and manically depressed if I were to catch a tagged redfish or a huge trout and miss out on a truck or boat because I wasn't registered.

Does it matter where you catch the fish? I know it says LA/MS coast, but what is stopping people from catching a large fish in texas, sticking it in an ice chest, and weighing it in LA?
Also, do you have to register before the 26th or can you register while the tourney is running

Pretty sure Texas has their own tourney

You can register during the tournament, but have to have been registered a certain amount of time before you are eligible to prevent you from catching a fish then registering.

Yes. TX STAR is its own tourney as is LA STAR, you must be entered in either and your fish has to come from those state waters.

You can register at any point during the tourney. Just not AFTER you've caught your tagged red.
And yes I fish it, you never know what might bite on the end of your line!

Why wouldnt you? Every year you hear about people catching tagged reds that haven't entered.

Seems like they polygraph you about your catch if you attempt to enter a fish for one of the major prizes...
From the Star FAQ's:
quote:
Is there a time limit to weigh in the fish?
Yes. Your fish must be weighed in within 24 hours of the catch. Offshore species are allotted 72 hours. This is noted on your official weigh-in form and is verified by polygraph.
And from the Official Rules:
quote:
31. Any person, including minors, entering a prize-winning fish or claiming a prize, must agree to submit to a polygraph examination. Additionally, each person entering the STAR agrees to submit to a polygraph examination. The STAR Committee reserves the right to select polygraphists to administer polygraph examinations. All polygraph examinations required shall be taken at the time, place and by the polygraphists designated by the STAR Committee. Each contestant agrees by his/her signature on the official CCA STAR entry form, to submit to a polygraph examination and abide by its conclusion. All travel expenses are to be paid by entrant. Failure to submit to or pass the required polygraph examination shall result in disqualification.

Just making sure I am doing this right...
$25 to join CCA and then $25 to register for the STAR tourney?

Yup!
But you can't register for the Star until you have your CCA Member ID.
I just emailed the CCA via the email address they provide in their membership confirmation email to see how I can get my Member ID, since it takes 4-6 weeks to get your ID Card...

Only online. You don't have to have it when registering at a store.

I used to sign up every year when I saltwater fished on a regular basis but hated the fact that I was giving money to thoses bastards.
Speaking from a family of commercial fishermen, the CCA is a piece of shite. IMO

From what I understand one of their main objectives is reducing bycatch on trawl boats. I know they were the main reason for the TED's a while back. Their always whining about all the little fish the shrimpers kill.
And they play a big role in alot of the fishing going IFQ. They are trying to reduce the amount of licenses and therefore eliminating the little man. A few of the bigger boats buy all the quotas from the smaller boats because they can't even pay the fuel with the little bit they are allowed to catch. On top of that, the quota you are given is based in historcial catch. Thats mean its practically impossible for someone new to enter in the business.
Oh and redfish are now way overpopulated
