My dad is a church of god pastor, for 35 years now. In that denomination you don't have to have a degree, but you do have to go through a two year course and obtain a license. If you're married, your spouse will most likely go through it as well, they specifically call it the MIP or ministerial internship program.

Well, it's not about the money, is it? It is about serving the lord. Pastors must wear many hats, and if the membership wishes to give generously to the church in order to assist in the ministry, surely the Lord does not fault them for that.

According to Rummy ( LINK), we have a "zero tolerance policy regarding religious threads right now."
That was May 10 though. A lot may have changed since then, and to be honest, there were plenty of obvious religion threads flying around when he made that comment too. So it's all a mystery to us at this point what the real policy is.

My dad makes less money than I do, and yet he's available 24/7. It's definitely not about the money in every case, though there are some who do well for themselves, I guess it just depends on where you feel god has called you to, and what the demographic of people is there. My dad left his home and family to pastor in the poorest mountains of eastern Kentucky, and it makes me mad when people act like ministers are just in it for the money or prestige that can be gained, when there are those who give up everything to try and fulfil what they believe god is asking them to do.

My uncle was a baptist preacher, then anglican, then Greek orthodox. I'm a baptist but I really like the way the Greek ortho's operate.
I'm 40 and flawed. If ever that was a possibility, the ship has sailed. Are you a young guy? Thinking about seminary?
