How do I make my grass grow slower?

I have extremely thick St. Aug and if it rains that week it shoots up like wildfire.
It will go from 3.5" when I cut it to 7" over the period of a week. I just want it to slow the hell down because it holds water when it is that long and I have a hard time chopping it down.

Primo, it aint cheap but helps
You may need to look into dethatching it. There are some rotary mower blades that can do this. Will be ugly for a few weeks but would come back strong.

There is a chemical for st Augustine you can use that slows the growth. Yard dude puts it down so I'm not sure of the name. Catch is, ya gotta keep your yard watered and fertilized properly because if it starts to die because of a lack of water or fert....your yard is fricked for the year because if the slow growth.

When the spring, early summer rains are less frequent, you probably won't have this problem. I did find this.
