This isnt a civil rights issue, it's an issue regarding enforcement of a contract. The insistence of some to coin it one is insulting IMV to the work done by those in the 60's.

I must have missed the election that any state allowed for same sex marriages......which I would consider "acceptance" in this country.
If young people voted as much as geezers it would be "accepted" by your definition.

Yep. Interracial marriage might still be illegal in Mississippi if put to a vote. But I think in the next 20 years it will be common and the next 50 it will pretty much be everyone.

The courts don't even view this as a civil rights situation but you do?

How can this be viewed as a civil rights issue? Nobody is stopping them from being together.

Friend of mine on facebook is trying to start a petition to have the state amendment be ruled unconstitutional by the federal courts.

Its not, its just the "talking point" they want to attack it with.

Right. It's a matter of allowing (or, in these particular cases, not allowing) individuals to enter into a marriage or marriage-like contract.

Why should a civil rights issue be left up to the state? Have you seen some of the goobers who currently run states? You want them deciding your rights? I don't. Could a state decide that it's OK to have 5 wives? We've had that fight before.

They are no different than the same goobers running the country. You think this is a meritocracy? Not even close.

If you support gay marriage how do you distinguish here? All prop 8 did was not allow them to use the word marriage. It didn't actually take any rights from them. It was still ruled unconstitutional but please learn something DA.

Yeah, but there's no way to exclude the black female vote, so it is what it is.

If you are going to allow them to enjoy the fruits of your labor, I don't see why it is such a change of pace for them to manipulate contract law.

Politicians are inherently shitty. You won't find many good state governments. I guess that means we should let the feds run the show, huh?

No, but a man and five women can.

Better an entire state, than a few radical judges. Its just not something I care about. Economy and Jobs/debt crisis are more important. All of us getting screwed now, not that much worried about Ken screwing Bob, with a certificate.

I was referring to the feds telling Utah it couldn't be a state unless they dumped polygamy.

DOMA will be repealed within the next 5-10 years. SCOTUS will rule that states must give Full Faith and Credit within 10-15 years. Within 20-25 years, SCOTUS will deem it an Equal Protection issue and it will be legal nationwide.

Is there some federal. Law that prohibits these situations.. I honestly don't know.. Listen I'm supportive of gay marriage but don't view It as a civil rights issue.. The federal government needs to extend the same benefits and disadvantages of "marriage" to gays...it's simple.. Now if they were being rounded up and prosecuted/harassed for living there life...yes it would be a civil rights issue.
