Are you saying that McConnel and Herring aren't remarkable musicians?
Herring yes, McConnell, meh. Sorry, I just still view McConnell as the typical college band guitarists who just happened to be lucky and available to fill the void with WP. I know how much you love that band and sorry if you disagree, but that's how I think about it.

You don't have to like them or enjoy their take on WSP tunes
This was my main point though.

He was hand picked by Houser to be his replacement. I think you need some pretty serious chops in order for that to happen.
Herring is obviously the better of the two imo. Hell Herring is probably a better technical guitarist than Houser.

Wilco...
The only original members left are Tweedy in Stirratt... Most changes were made due to the evolving sounds Tweedy was exploring.
The original Lineup was:
Jeff tweedy: Guitar & vox
John Stirratt: Bass
Jay Bennett: Guitar & Keys
Ken Coomer: Drums
Max Johnston: Multi-Instrumentalist
Current Lineup:
Jeff tweedy: Guitar & vox
John Stirratt: Bass
Nels Cline: Guitar
Glenn Kotchke: Drums
Pat Sansone: Multi-Instrumentalist
Mikail Jorgensen: Keyboards
Leroy Bach and Bob Egan were members at a time, as well...

Just don't want to see them forgotten
Red Hot Chili Peppers
Flea
Kiedis
Frusciante
Dave Navarro
Chad Smith
Jack Irons (also in Pearl Jam and Eleven, and in The Wallflowers)
DeWayne McKnight (for a very short time)
Edited even though we were robbed of his career too early..
Slovak.. may he RIP.

Cant argue with that. The classic lineup will always be my favorite, but the new guys out at the fest this past week were spot on...

I am a believer that playing behind Keef makes everyone better. I prolly could look good with Keef on lead...I joke. the above are all excellent musicians. Good choice. But for me, it is and always will be Keefs band, along with the best front man of all time.

Fleetwood Mac went through several lineup changes and all were great.
I don't know the specific names of the members though.

Good call. Although my favorite Chilli Peppers lineup was the original: Kiedis, Flea, Slovak, Irons

I didn't forget about him, I just wasn't sure how he would go over in the thread... especially since he died in the Chilis.
I'm one of the biggest RHCP standard bearers out there.

How about Guns n' Roses?
I still shudder to think that, the one and only, Tommy Stinson plays bass in that band... To think he went from arguably the greatest American band of the 80s (at 11 years old), to Axl's megalomaniacal sideshow...

frick Axl... his ego ruined that band
On a related not I enjoyed Velvet Revolver's CD with Slither and I fall to pieces.

I thought they were pretty terrible with Navarro and I'm not a big fan of this new guy either (can't remember his name atm). They were great with Hillel and and beyond great with Frusciante though

Don't know about GnR.
Although I rocked their 1st 2 albums when they were released, I never thought they ever had much staying power - regardless of lineup changes. It worked for a few albums, then meh.

I get that they get a lot of hate.. doesn't really bother me... different strokes for different folks. I just love that kinda melodic funky style they have.. but that's just me.
For example (I am about to utter blasphemy) I don't really like the Beatles... Just never got into them. Yea, I said it.

well, they only had 3 records until that chinese democracy, right?
I'm not a huge fan either... consider them stricken from further consideration and discussion...
