Well that's fine and dandy, but Barry is certainly not just an online school. It has been around for about 70 years.

Costs about $30,000 to $40,000/year to go there.

I respect Shaq's quest, to acquire an advanced education, albeit honorary, and in the process, become a solid role model.

He is trying to give the youth, a model and legacy. He is doing it for his family and children.

Congrats to Shaq! I hope he becomes VERY involved in LSU Athletics/MBB.

Shaquille IS living life to the fullest. He is teaching and modeling the values of an education. I admire someone who values the workings of a mind and who desires to learn new things. If you stop learning, you stop growing.

There is more to life than making millions dunking a basketball. Shaq knows this and accepts his basketball days are behind him. His desire to help his community and be a role model to young kids is worth more than his bank account.

If you can't accept what shaquille is doing, then you are probably closed-minded anyway.

Apparently Barry U. is a private college (not for-profit like Univ. of Phoenix) with a physical campus that happens to be accredited by the same organization that accredits LSU.

after the spurs/jazz game, he had a little video clip telling barkley that he now had to refer to him as doctor, or he wouldn't speak to him.

Oh well, that says it all. I wish you would have posted sooner so that I wouldn't have read the whole thread.

He finished a degree with an online school, and you guys are acting like he graduated from an actual SEC school.

Templars,
I like your name, but I believe you’re a bit off. I earned my bachelors from LSU in 1991. I am working on my masters at Gonzaga---ONLINE----. I could have chosen local and attended on campus, but Gonzaga offered a program that was top 10 in my chosen field, excellent values, and run by the Jesuits. All a plus for me. To get into this school was harder than most programs, on campus, in Georgia. Also, in the case of Gonzaga it’s both on campus and/or online. No difference. This is the new world of education and it does work.
Final note, I was in a class last semester with a woman who attended classes one year on campus and one year online. She emphatically stated the on line was harder. There has to be more accountability online, so more points of engagement with professor and other students. In other words more work.
Your friend,

This is pretty laughable coming from a fan of the worst academic school in the SEC. Is Auburn even still accredited?

Many reputable schools offer post graduate degree programs that are mostly done online and through video conferencing. I know that Georgetown and Rice have executive MBA programs like this. Barry is not a for profit online school, so once again Templars talks out of his arse and makes himself look like an idiot on this board. Don't know why he still posts here.

Have to admire Shaq's intellect and discipline completing all the work to ultimately obtain his phd. He seems to want more out of life than retired bb super star mode. Props to Big Aristotle.

His attitude, as well as 15sammy34's, reeks of liberal elitism. I personally think it would be harder to discipline yourself to complete the on-line material than to get up and show up for class.

Props to Dr. O'Neil

He really is a great role model as far as athletes go and will always be one of my favorites.

The same guy who said "Kobe, tell me how my arse tastes", earns a worthless piece of paper and you guys congratulate him - get a life.

Proof that universal popularity is impossible and there will always be a critic. We are talking about Shaq who is a multimillionaire because he played a game. Not only did he come back to LSU and get a bachelors but he has recieved an MBA and a doctorate from various entities. There is literally no financial benefit for him from doing this. He is doing it purely for the fun and betterment of himself. THAT is what higher education is supposed to be about. Not purely vocational resume like 99% of todays college students. Also Shaq can unabashedly say to every kid that he talks to to stay in school and value education. How many guys who leave early finish their degree? Much less do graduate work.

And since you brought the name up lets just compare Shaq and Kobe. Shaq off the court is known for his cheesy movies, attempted rap cds, being a volunteer police officer, and getting his bachelors MBA and Ed D. Kobe is known for raping a woman in Colorado. Now who is the one we need to be criticizing.
