You are completely missing his point.

If I had life to do over again, I'd have either gone to grad school in NYC or tried to get a job in NYC right out of school. I think it would've been fun as hell to live there in early 20's.

Yes, I took it too literally. But you will be paying double for every single product you buy there so the money is relative.

I think you could do just as well if you have a good job (making 150 to 250k) in Arkansas than you good in NYC making a comparable amount (750 to 2 million?)

50% of take home pay when I lived there several years ago (Manhattan). I lived walking distance to work in Murray Hill. Three years in NYC--didn't save a penny, but didnt go into debt Best location is East/West Village in my opinion. Don't live outside Manhattan. Sacrifice space for the best price/location combo you can afford. I'd prefer a 400 sq ft studio in the village to a 1000 sq ft apt in the outer boroughs.

Yes, it would be fun no doubt. I'm not disputing that fact.

What I'm saying that if someone lived here they would be entertained enough that the pro of cheap living would win out.

I'd rather have a real nice house a in a cheap area than live in a tuna can that cost three to four times more.

I've heard there it can take hours to go about 5 miles at rushour.

That happening about 2 times for me would make me want to move.

You're exaggerating the cost of living difference too much.

LINK

Click on Fayetteville, Springdale,Rogers, AR MO Metro and compare to New York, Manhattan.

It shows a list of about a 100 or so products and more are at around near double in price.

Of course rent is more expensive than NWA, but you save on transportation and utilities. Food in grocery store is probably 20-25% more. Cheap ethnic food/pizza everywhere in NYC. Free concerts in the summertime at the parks. When I lived there, live music at the bar across the street seven days a week.

i must be doing it wrong, but like ric is saying it's def alot more for rent but it's cheaper on some stuff, but yeah over all your gonna spend alot more money in the city.

my biggest money suck, was being lazy and taking cabs at night, and food delv. those two will eat you up.

Yeah, the calculator is exaggerating a bit. According to those calculators if I make in the 20's in NWA I can keep my same lifestyle as I do in NYC. Not even close.
