Although I hate to say "obscure" at almost 500k views on this song, I had never heard of them before today. Volumes is damn good, especially so if you like djent.
Volumes - Wormholes
And Hell Followed With - In Vastness, I Transfigure

its obscure to anyone who isnt die hard into metal. there are a bunch of bands in that same vein. wolves in the throne room is probably the most known of that sect of metal. its very atmospheric, slow and sludgy.
here are some more. in that same area...
Blut aus nord
Subrosa

Gotta say it's not my favorite type. I like heavy, hard, with a fast pace.. I like to get a rush from it.
I can't listen to any of the music posted right now but I assure anyone who posts that I will give every link a try tonight. I want to hear what else is out there.

Bison BC if you want sludgier type stuff
Cannabis Corpse These guys are a stoner, death metal parody band. All their song titles are stoner versions of songs by Morbid Angel, Cannibal Corpse etc. They're pretty good on their own too.
Lock Up sort of a grindcore supergroup if you're into Napalm Death and Carcass and stuff like that
Hate another great Polish death metal band. These guys look and sound a lot like Behemoth.
Sunn O))) if you want some ambient/drone/experimental type stuff. Drop acid and listen to them with good headphones. The acid isn't necessary but good headphones are a must. Bonus weird points for any song with Attila Csihar on vocals.
Warbeast good old fashioned 80s style thrash from Texas. I've seen them 4 or 5 times now and they bring it live.

Not sure how obscure these bands are (certainly outside the Metallica-Cannibal Corpse-Mayhem spectrum of commonly known acts) but whatever. All great in their own way:
Agalloch
Vlad Tepes
Jex Thoth
Witch
Kvelertak

To Erase A Lifetime is a damn good song. Check out this vid someone took and linked to the song.... saw it when I searched for the title
To erase a lifetime, local style.

Trenches was started by the vocalist from Haste the Day after he left them a few years ago.
Gallows is pretty well known in the UK, just not so much over here. Their entire Grey Britain album is great.

haarp
They are on Phil Anslemo's label, Housecore Records. Saw them live sometime last year when they opened for Down, and I must say I was blown away.

I've been meaning to, but I haven't picked it up yet. I will grab it this week. More Kirk than Jamey is a good thing. Waiting anxiously for the new Down to be released.
