The Stargate franchise taught us so much about this... We really just need to capture an alien ship, seeing as how the likelihood it would have greater than lightspeed capability.

If we figure out the whole travel at the speed of light thing, surely our way of communication would evolve, wouldn't it?
Most assuredly. Check out the work they're doing with quantum entanglement. It's still in its infancy but it'd be pretty safe to posit that entanglement or another similar field would be very well developed by the time we are capable of traveling to the stars.

I think they account for that even.. but it still disallows a lot of planets that are made of pure gas or 3000 degrees etc.

Has anyone ever done testing on the aging effect on living cells experiencing high speeds that would cause slowing of time? Do they age slower on the relative time or the time they are experiencing?
They've also put atomic clocks on 747s and space shuttles, and at the end of the trip the atomic clock is behind a ground-based clock because less time elapsed on the plane/shuttle. Given the low speeds and time periods involved, a person wouldn't even perceive the difference but the atomic clocks do.

I vaguely remember something one of my professors told our class one day about a person who travels at light speed for an extended amount of time will be younger than actual time spent away from Earth, by like a few months and even up to a year, once they return to Earth. i.e., if there were twins, born at the same exact time, and one spent years traveling at light speed, they would return younger than the other twin. (that was the example my professor used)

Been established and it all depends on how fast for how long.

If they sent a message on the way back, they could race the message home.

Now they need to find a planet that lets you grow younger.
