Johnny Jones and Shawn Forrest are in Minneapolis for the Nike Elite Youth Basketball League tournament. Most of the top Texas and Louisiana players are there.

Did Trent ever go to these things?

Of course. His recruiting problems were centered around his personality. He was well traveled and attended events.

Supposedly, Randy is making appearances at an event or two this weekend as well...

maybe one or the other will be at the tourney next weekend in Little Rock. it's one of the largest 5 on 5 events in the country. Durant, Griffin, Wall, etc...have all played in it.

here is an article about some of day 1; mentions a possible LSU target

Sleeper alert
How does a player who didn't start for his high school team during the 2011-12 season turn into a hot name on the recruiting trail?
A long 6-9, Damian Jones of the Texas Titans and Scotlandville (Baton Rouge, La.) has the frame and raw tools to deserve a long look from at least a few of the hundreds of Division I coaches in attendance this weekend at the High Performance Academy.
He came off the bench for Louisiana's Class 5A state champs as a junior and started drawing attention from programs like Alabama, Oklahoma and Oklahoma State. Playing alongside five-star teammates Julius Randle and Matt Jones (committed to Duke) this summer should ensure he continues to receive plenty of exposure.
Jones says he hopes to hear from schools like Florida, Kansas, LSU, North Carolina and Texas.

Scotlandville started a 6'8 sr who been a 3 year starter and they also had Pancake Thomas at 6"3 in the starting lineup to go with 3 other guards, so 6'9 Damion Jones and 6'9 Jared Sams both continued to come off the bench playing behind Sr's. Side note Damion won a dunk contest in one of the national tournaments Scotlandville played in this pass season.

Yes, LSU is watching him and Randle, among others.

Write up on Jarrell Martin from Friday in Vegas LINK
quote:
One of the most intriguing players of the day on Friday was New Orleans Elite four-man Jarrell Martin. The 6-foot-8 product of Madison Prep was impressive with his effort on the glass and ability to score the rock.
quote:
In the past, Martin has floated some to the perimeter. Now, he's playing a more attacking game that is focused on making things happen in the paint.
In fact, Martin made it clear he wants to be seen as a physical player.
"I want to try and get stronger out there," Martin told Rivals.com. "I want to play even more physical."
A good athlete, Martin also has some skill facing the hoop and can put the ball on the floor a bit.
He mentioned Oklahoma State, Alabama, LSU, Kansas, Baylor, Louisville, Texas A&M, Texas and Marquette among others.
Martin took unofficial visits to Louisville and Oklahoma State during the winter and says those are the two schools recruiting him the hardest.

Trent went to these things too. I think Johnny can be much more successful.
Trent drove me nuts by never saying what he was up to. I can understand the low key guys but shite tell us the big fish.

This is the first big weekend of AAU and the top players in the state are kind of scattered around. Jarrell Martin is playing with Louisiana Elite at the Pangos Spring Spectacular in Las Vegas, where there are several big tournaments going on.
Damian Jones is playing with the Texas Titans in Minneapolis at the EYBL, as is Brian Bridgewater with the Houston Hoops. See boxscore
Below is a summary of what is going on this weekend:

If Charlie Leonard has been hired, he is possibly somewhere at one of the tournaments, and possibly a third assistant if he has been hired.

EYBL Stats and standings
This is a link to the EYBL stats and standings page. There are links on the right side to each session. Once in the session, click on each game to see a boxscore. Louisiana Select doesn't appear to have any big names, but is 2-0 and playing well. Looks like most of the major Louisiana players are playing for out of state teams.

@Hoopniks: He is only 5'8 but Yettra Specks has a scorer's DNA for Louisiana Select. Active off the ball and produced from perimeter.
Had 17 points last night and 12 this morning in wins.

One difference is that we're hearing about these visits and this recruiting. There has been a virtual moratorium on any recruiting information from our last staff. So any change is a good one IMO. Gets the fans involved, gets our hopes up that they're out trying to land players, and gives us a better gauge of the future.
I think it's smart for staffs to use the media to get the basketball info out there. So this is a nice change to even hear about these trips.
ETA: last sentence is just a general statement bubba
