Well, if no one is allowed to speak on behalf of God, then we really don't need a Religion Board, now do we? Blue Velvet already told me that (paraphrasing here) that I had some nerve calling myself a Christian because I attend a church run by pedofacists (aka the Catholic Church) so I'm not really surprised that Blue Velvet thinks no one should speak on God's behalf, ever. Chicken, I hearby nominate Blue Velvet to be an admin. I am convinced that no one on the Poli Board is more just and unbiased. He will do a great job.

If the title of the board is still being mulled over, I'd suggest "The Mental Sphere"; and maybe a subtitle mentioning discussion of religion, philosophy, technology, science, ideas, etc. I think that title would automatically add an academic appeal that would hint at the intended tone of the content posted inside. While some threads will undoubtedly become heated arguments no matter what, if you just call it a religion board, I think it will automatically be seen as a battleground by those entering, as opposed to a forum to discuss ideas.
I kind of like where you're going here. To get away from the quasi-political nature of ordinary religious polemics, perhaps we should really try to embrace the unusual and otherworldly. I'd like to have a board that consolidated all the crazy insane threads started by people like colin, LSURyan, m2pro, etc., to say nothing of Muppet's occasional digressions on psychology or philosophy. If we wanted to really freak people out we could call it the Parallel Dimensions, Alien Encounters, and Higher Consciousness board. For example, I'm not saying that Moses was visited on Mount Sinai by aliens ....but aliens! Okay, okay, so I'm not being totally serious here, but I do think that if a new board is created, it should try to embrace the more "out there" topics for discussion rather than focusing on the usual bickering on topics that have more in common with political discussions. Now some "out there" stuff, like the inevitable free will/predestination debates, do tend to get kind of bitter and polemical, but, you know, nothing's perfect.

By the way, can we get a confirmation of what RummelTiger posted yesterday ( LINK): "Did not pull that one, but I would assume that it was due to out zero tolerance policy regarding religious threads right now." Does this mean zero tolerance regarding religious threads not having to do with what Obama said, what Biden said about Ryan, what Church dogma teaches on "social justice," or why the Church doesn't excommunicate Pelosi?

Hmmnn. I wonder then how he feels about prod denominations? I wonder if he knows they have more sex abuse cases than the catholic church. Been posted here a million times. Nah, that would kill his agenda if he recognized that. Sounds like his perspective, rationality, interpretation and differentiation skills are atrocious like IB Freeman's, DA's and the like.

How? The pope is trying to speak on behalf of god and BV is pointing out how ridiculous it is to do that. Again, you disagreeing with it does not make it trolling.

I'm not surpised you-- in particular-- picked up on the more... umm... esoteric implications of my suggestion. And, yes, it was on my mind. Neither the OT nor the Poli board would be ideal for discussing the impact of the neoplatonists on both Christianity and more occult factions like the theosophists and Golden Dawn. So your jokes are well aimed. But I also thought a term like that, which has religious and philosophical overtones, also touches on (if ever so slightly) more mainstream subjects like psychology, as Carl Jung's work on the collective unconscious touches on the mental sphere. And it does all of this in a bland, non-confrontational way.

This thread got anchored??? If a decision hasn't been made, this getting the anchor is a little surprising considering Chicken started this thread to solicit feedback for a common topic looking for a home. A couple of trolls in this thread shouldn't have killed it, imo.
