I'm ALWAYS reasonable when it comes to LSU hoops. The other sports that I don't care nearly as much about is when I like to rile up the tards on this board

Many of these posts remind me of supportive comments when Jerry Stovall was hired.

This was a horrible hire. It just furthers my believe that the LSU athletic dept doesn't give a frick about its basketball program. frick Johnnie Jones. We deserve more.
There are two things that need to happen for you to have a problem with Johnny Jones right now:
1. Have a vagina
2. Put a lot of sand in said vagina
Negatigers like you need to realize how unimportant you are and how little your negative opinions matter and just be fans instead. Geaux Tigers!

The problem with this is that JJones hostory has not yet been written..Stovall has.
If you did not like the hire of Stovall, you can now say
"I told yous so", but that does not really have much to do with JJones hire.
I did not like the hire for Stovall,
I do JJnones... totally different scenario and different sport....different $ situation in both revenues and expenses.

Who would want the mess left by Trent Johnson? Who would blame a coach for turning down this "opportunity"? The only positives are 5 scholarships and two good returning players and one signee. Of course, the facilities are nice even if the PMAC is old. It is good to have a guy come in when it is not about the money although he will probably receive a nice raise. From what I have seen and heard him say I am excited. Yes, the rah-rah is in every news conference for the first time. The only difference here is he has proven to be a recruiter. If you have players the X's and O's will take care of themselves in most cases.

I thought about this, too, but Stovall hadn't proven he was a head coach. The circumstances were similar in that it was a bit late to find another coach. All the Trent Johnson detractors should be happy in that he is gone. I believe this is a positive step forward.

We have 3 good returning players in Hickey, JOB and Ralston Turner - thats 3 starters. Throw in coleman hopefully and malik morgan and there is your starting 5. You got courtney, stringer and ludwig coming off the bench - all have experience. Plus maybe Hammink who can play the 1 or 2 or 3 so that give you more depth. We need one more big guy. Thats all we need. the well is not dry. You are going to be amazed at how much better this team will be. they are going to shock some people if hickey and JOB stay healthy.

Maybe one extra person will come. They always want a new coach , get one then forget all over again. It will be the same 4k that it is every year in there

One could argue that JJones has.. to some degree.
Remember, it has been 10+ years since he was at LSU..been to Memphis, UNT, ..
and his UNT team beat us by 20 a couple of years back.
I have always believed that it is much harder to win consistently at the lower level, than at the Div I...I know the competition is also less, but likely more evenly distributed.
Facilities, Budget, Recruiting, Talent, etc.
much like it is harder to run a ONE STORE business than a 10 store business, where some mistakes are "forgiven" by the volume.

He's def saying all the right things right now. I wish him well.
To the OP - I think more fans will turn up the first few games for the "honeymoon" phase to see what kind of product is on the floor. After that, depending on W's or L's the fans will come or go.

Exactly my point. Jones took a horrible, downtrodden program and turned it into a championship contender. It doesn't matter what the conference is if that occurs as the teams are constant. He measurably did all he could do where he was. He may flop but I believe we will see immediate results. No, he may not win the West right away but I feel the other teams across the conference will soon respect the Tiger basketball team as a formidable foe.

I did not like the hire for Stovall,
The Stovall hire was purely reactionary--familiar and loyal to LSU...and available.
It's a little difficult trying to make a head coach hire in mid-January

Or, apparently, in Mid April.

Okay, I left out Turner and the bench is the bench for a reason. I mentioned Morgan as a signee but no one can depend on who is not there yet. Hey, I am all for Johnny Jones. I don't like the negativity but I wasn't overly excited about Les Miles who has done very well except for some lapses that most any one is susceptible having.
GEAUX TIGERS - I am happy overall with the outlook for all sports.

I hope CJJ brings in some big name opponents. That would deff help. Trent did a terrible job of this.
We haven't had an exciting non-conference slate in years, it's been the "in-state tour" for a while with the occasional decent game thrown in.

Correct me if I am wrong, Is Jones the first alum hire for a major sport in years?
