Whatever. This hire clearly shows that we don't give a frick about basketball at LSU. I remember in the late 80s and early 90s, we gave a frick about basketball. I long for those days.

regardless of the state of the program, this thread is about supporting the team and the new coach. I know it's much easier to be a fan when we're winning, but that's not always the way it is.

Yeah, back when we had Shaq and Chris Jackson and Ricky Blanton and a decent recruiter with ties to Louisiana...

This is a step in the right direction from Trent, at least.

I watched a few LSU games televised this year since I live in another state. The team took some wild 3 point off balance shots when penetration to the basket made more sense and at times a defense briefly appeared. A few times they played both offense and defense and the game came together as a win. A fast game pace by ball handlers who can penetrate and pass and rebound and shoot better than previous recent teams would be awesome to watch. I am looking for better recruiting, better athletes, better turnout and some increased success. Or, just call me naive then........

i went to 4 games this year and i live 1,000 miles from baton rouge. Its about supporting the team and the kids. Its not about who is on the sideline. If you are an LSU fan then support the kids who bust their butt every day to try and get better.

I promise you we will be better than 18-15 next year unless JOB or hickey gets hurt. he wont make the mistake of playing dre and hickey together in the back court. With turner on one wing and morgan on the other, hickey can penetrate and dish to JOB down low or Coleman (assuming he comes) or kick it out for a 3 or just go to the basket. the offense will be a running style for the first time in 15 years. I begged Trent to push the ball but he was just too damn stubborn to change. All year i told him that the backcourt was too small. Too damn stubborn to change. Johnny wont be that way. Johnny will play up tempo and fast paced. It will be fun to watch. Johnny can recruit. We just need a good bench coach to help him.

Think those 2 could possibly be connected in terms of fanbase interest, smart guy?

So you're saying for LSU fans to be interested in basketball, our football team has to suck?

Where's the logic?

If we actually play as fast as Jones said today, the games will be far more exciting at the very least.

Oh, he might also need to teach Stringer how to shoot a 3-pointer.

Anyone know the correct address at LSU to get a letter to JJ?

Coach Jones will not have to do it alone...he will have the entire LSU faithful behind him. I watched our team beat some talented teams last year. With proper coaching and consistent play, we can improve over last year's record.

Guy is going to have my support full on. I will try to get out to as many games as I can and support him. Him being an LSU guy and seeming to have a genuine love for LSU, is something I am really excited about.

I'm glad to have a new guy in here. TJ was boring as hell. Boring basketball, boring recruiting, boring personality.

Remind me again who we hired in the late-80's and early-90's to demonstrate that we cared about basketball? Oh yeah, we already had some guy named Dale Brown, who by the way was hired from Podunk North Dakota. Had you been around back then, you would have been saying the EXACT same thing about his hiring in the 70's. Turned out pretty good didn't it?

exactly, every coach that is somebody now, used to be nobody at some point. Give the guy a chance he could be the next big thing.... and if so, not to worry, he won't be at LSU long!

yeah we really showed we gave us frick by hiring Dale Brown who had been nothing more than an assistant and only 5 years before coming to LSU was a HS coach...

"THIS GUY" is an LSU player (ex) and he will get support and some time to succeed....leaving out the ex coach as well

ultimately, It takes winning to cure all

really ??

Frankly, I like the hire at this point.
Also, did you forget that his UNT team beat LSU by 20 pts or so ?
and trust me, UNT is not a recruiting power.

This JJones has 10 more years of exp than the JJones coach that left LSU.

he deserves the shot.

That was my feelings at 1st. I didn't necessarily think of Johnny as a bad coach as much as I despised the fact that Collis Temple Jr's man got the job.

Trent obviously was a bad fit here, but Collis made it worse for him by being anti LSU basketball during the time Trent was here. I will definitely pull for Johnny to do well because unlike Collis Temple Jr., I'm an LSU fan no matter what.

I understand this sentiment but I sort of think maybe Jones really is just the right guy for this job right now. This is going to sound well... maybe fricked up to some people but I'll say it anyway:

1) he's an energetic guy and an alum. That should get him some backing from the fan base and get some people to the PMAC.

2) he may not be the most established x's and o's guy in the world but this league isn't filled with coaching masterminds anyway. Talent wins...

3) he is here to keep talent in La. What better than a younger black man to recruit mostly young black men to play for LSU? I think he can relate and his enthusiasm will rub off.

I concur...I'd really be shocked if Johnny loses out on any in state talent, and his Texas ties will be huge too.
