Of course I'm not a woodworker so I took my time. A lot of the work was very tedious.

yes, there have been problems (in the past) with the finish chipping. and some of the responses people have gotten from grill dome were that it wasn't under warranty and "go to lowes/home depot adn get them to match the paint."

I've also read tons of great reviews too, though.

Wow. I've never heard/read that before about telling people to go to HD to match/fix the paint.

I've read where they'll replace the entire upper (or lower) dome assembly depending on what is chipped obviously.

Again, maintaining the finish and shutting the dome down correctly is very important.

And that makes sense. Quick changes in temperature would cause that. Plus lack of care.

I almost want to throw out the really good and really bad reviews.

And it's not that complicated to maintain/shut it down correctly.

So when are you going to pull the trigger on getting one?

Looking at the specs it appears the oval jr is about the same size as the large BGE or large grill dome. Am I right?

Well the primo site says 310 sq in of cooking......shoppers choice site says 210 sq in.

I've been looking at the ceramic grills for a while......I've decided on a "large" but just haven't pulled the trigger.

210 for the Junior. Up to 360 with extensions.

Well, I've got some change in my pocket from my fantasy football domination so that could ease the pain on my pocketbook. A red one would look awesome on my patio in a table like yours. I'm handy with a hammer so I could slap that together... I like the stainless trim and now a guy that could do the metal work. We'll see.

(Note: I do this every holiday season but have yet to pull the trigger)

Yeah, I was debating black or blue and once I saw the blue in person I was sold. It definitely 'pops' alot more than a black one would have.

What would be best way to figure out if one would interested in grilling and smoking like this, with the ceramic dome. Is there like a tutorial or something?

TIA

I did research for months and visited alot of sites/forums.

Search on YouTube for videos too. I can't tell you how many videos I've watched over the past 6 months. Definitely a good resource.

I got a BGE a couple of months ago. I don't care what brand you get...from what I can tell they are all very similar...but get one.

Food is simply better off of a ceramic grill. Retains more moisture than other grills.

One grill that can get up to 1000 degrees for a steak sear or stay at 215 for 20 hours to smoke a brisket...priceless.

Very easy to use, too. Slight learning curve for me, but even my screw ups resulted in decent food. Once you master the T-Rex method for steaks you'll never go back. Sear your steak(s) for 90 seconds per side at a very high temp. Then pull and rest the steaks for 20 minutes while bringing the grill down to 400 degrees. Now you can slowly finish your steaks and get the exact temp you want. Seared on the outside, perfect on the inside. And 400 degrees is the perfect time to throw on any vegetables.

Do you have plans for that table you are willing to share?
