Great video. I love hearing crowds sing with a British accent.

Kaiser Chiefs have toured with the Foo Fighters for what it's worth.

Pound for pound I think the U.K puts out more music (quality) then the U.S.
(I suppose it could be a good debate)
But some acts are just too 'britishy' for the U.S.
imo

Slade was a pioneer glam rock band in the UK that never made it big in the U.S. Although their song Cum On Feel The Noize got considerable play when covered by Quiet Riot.

The Hollies had a number of US hits: "Bus Stop", "Stop Stop Stop", "Carrie Ann", "He's Not Heavy He's My Brother", "Long Cool Woman In A Black Dress", "The Air That I Breathe"... True they were even bigger in the UK -- but they were still very successful stateside.

Not band but Robbie Williams. He is the UK's biggest selling solo act and I'd love to see him live.
Had minor US hits with Millennium and Angels; some airplay with Feel.

Wow, Kafka! Didn't think anyone else remembered 'The Move'...they didn't really tour the States, which hurt them. They were good friends with Hendrix, were going to do a U.S. tour with JHE, but it fell apart after only 2 or 3 shows. In fact, Roy Wood of the Move sang on Hendrix's Axis Bold as Love album. As much as The Move went under appreciated in the States, you could also say the same for Roy Wood's Wizzard which had several hits in Europe, but not even a blip on the screen in America. And then ELO, which really was started as much by Roy Wood, did not become big in the States until Roy Wood left the band and gave full control to Jeff Lynne.

The Kooks may be a more recent one.

Yep, another band that was huge in Britan, but just didn't appeal to American radio, but they did have a cult following here. A lot of bands from the 'Glam Rock' years were never really big in the Stated, but huge in Europe. Sweet and T. Rex come to mind.

How was Mott the Hoople received in the US? I wasnt old enough to remember...
I think there were a ton of bands during the 90's Britpop explosion that were by and large an afterthought in the US... I think many have been mentioned, but I'd throw in Pulp & Supergrass...
One of my favorite records was The La's... "There She Goes" was a minor hit, but the rest of the record was pretty much ignored...

From what I understand Mott was modestly successful in the US -- "All The Young Dudes" made the pop top 40 -- but they were never as big here as, say, Bad Company. "ATYD" and "All The Way To Memphis" were still mainstays of AOR in the late '70s and 80s.
About on the Roxy Music level in the US, and definitely much bigger than The Move.

Roxy was da shizen, da absoloot shizen.
I never figured out why they didn't catch on here, and bands like Duran Duran were able to have a field day here. Backasswards.

Were a very cool band.
The Move version of "Do Ya" >>>>>> than ELO's

I'm a huge Move fan but I've never cared for ELO

I only was interested initially because of the Move connection. But then Jeff Lynne's excess in the studio reared its ugly head.

Now there's a band I haven't thought of in a long time. But since you're throwing a Scottish band, I'll throw out Aztec Camera.
My contribution, The Happy Mondays.
