Gin. Dry. Up.
6 parts Ketel One vodka. 1 part vermouth. Shaken. Clean. Up.

This.
ETA:
1. Hendricks and Beefeaters are both okay. Bombay and Sapphire drinkers probably like to wear cologne (Hayman's Old Tom is the only gin that can get away with that shite).
2. The concept of "bruised gin" is a fallacy and an anachronism from days gone by. That's not to say someone may legitimately preferred stirred.
3. There's nothing wrong with a "vodka martini", but it's not a true or classic martini.
4. People who drink Grey Goose are falling for a marketing ploy by a very shrewd dude named Sidney Frank who is now deceased. He is also responsible for the otherwise inexplicable popularity of the sludge known as Jagermeister in the U.S. Grey Goose truly is nothing special . . . at all.

So if you use a pilsner glass, with a small solo cup (10 oz I think) on the end, you can shake gin properly this way without bruising it.
I'm not trying to start an e-fight with you, but I've worked in several fine dining restaurants and served 1000's of martinis. I've NEVER had a customer return a drink because it was shaken and not stirred, or vice versa. Maybe every single one of them was just too polite to tell me, but I seriously doubt it because I've waited and served some of the most anal/pretentious mother f'ers in the state...I've had them send drinks back because the glass was'nt chilled enough, not shaken well enough, etc but never because i shook when I should have stirred.....and for the record, I shake every martini i serve.

Only one way to make a Martini and thats with Gin. Anything else is not a martini...watermelon martini, chocolate martini, vodka martini..

I absolutely believe this to be the case.

Beefeater on the rocks two olives. Hendricks if no Beefeater.

Ethereal, junipero, Plymouth, boodles, millers, Hendricks and aviation are the best gins for martinis (which is why our bar is always stocked with a bottle of each)
ethereal is the best IMO
Once in a blue moon a crave a dirty vodka martini which is the only reason I have a bottle of stoli (grey goose sucks)

Never had ethereal. I do like Junipero though. But I'm pretty consistent with Beefeater. I can't shake how my grandfather and dad raised me on that front.

3 or 4 ice cubes in a shaker
splash of sweet vermouth, shake, pour off excess vermouth
jigger of vodka (usually Finlandia), shake it 'til it's cold
pour over two olives in a frosted martini glass
