I think JJ or SP would work here if either brings with them a guy who can sell the program (Livingston) and a elder bench coach who has a national resume but is looking to just focus on the Xs and Os (like Tex Winters served for Phil Jackson)

Building a program at LSU is different for basketball than it is for football because in football if you lock down the state you will always have a competitive team with decent coaching. in Basketball we will have to go at least regional if not national to get the players needed to be at the top.

So with that being said you need a guy who a) Can project the love he has for LSU so much on a recruit it becomes infectious. (Johnny Jones fits here.)

b) sell a certain style of playing. (Steve Prohm fits here.)

Defense players love playing at LSU because of the style. Running Backs love playing at LSU because of the style. Coach Cal will sign a top PG every year because the Dribble drive offense is appealing to them. Duke has 50 guards on the roster because Coach K loves his Gs to jack up threes. We need a certain style Guards and Forwards will be attracted to playing with.

Also another significant reason is I think both guys would actually enjoy living in Louisiana. That is something that is significant to think about with spouting off the name of big time Coaches. Some folks love the fast life/big city...they wont stay in BR long if that's what they crave.

And for Pointers keep Timmy Byrd in the fold...That guy will build Riverside into a powerhouse in 3 sports here in the next couple of years....it will be a hotbed for athletes and i bet he would love to continually send them to his alma mater if they are going to be winners once there.

No offense, but I'm tired of hearing LSU needs someone who can "sell" the program. You know what "sells" a program? Winning. Get a coach that can win consistently. I promise that the fan support would be 1000x better for a coach who had the personality of a rock, but had the team at the top of the SEC year in and year out, as opposed to a guy who had the program at the bottom of the SEC, but had a infectious personality.

you really need both. someone who will still put 10,000 in even when we are an 8-8 SEC team.

Exactly. How many top recruits will pass up the big schools to come to LSU to play in front of a dull 5k people? Someone needs to sell excitement for the program. This us exactly why TJ wasnt successful. He was a good coach, bit not a salesman.

Herb Sendek won consistenly in the ACC which is one of the better conferences. Place no worst that 6th in his last five years at NC State...and even went to the sweet 16 that year. But he was as dry as the Sahara and the fans was not "all onboard"

You need a guy who can sell...

I hadn't even thought about Prohm. He's interesting, but there's a huge problem with him. He's coached for one year, even if it was an excellent year.

Murray State has been, outside of Xavier, VCU, and Butler, a breeding ground for coaches who left for better jobs the past two decades. How much of Prohm's success is due to what Kennedy did? It's tough to say after a year. But I think Prohm is a hell of a lot better than a guy with a show clause.

His style would work here both with the players and fans. I think Hickey, Ralston, Morgan would florish in a fast paced offense. And if we get a slender big man like Pelle who can run the floor and good wing like Coleman we could be a problem for teams next year.

That's a pipe dream, IMO.
