I have been on many community boards and community task forces in the past, and support several political groups with small donations annually to community groups which are run by people I know. Unlike your union, these people don't make bank and are volunteers.

What does any of this have to do with being a union member?
Also, "tout their party line" implies supporting a political position. What position are you referencing?
If this thread was just an attempt to find out who donates money to groups, you could easily have asked that without making your OP sound so partisan/insulting.

Maybe he thinks being a member of a union is contributing to a cause. That's the only reason I can think that he brought it up.

Unions are a business, not a cause. They have business offices and paid lobbyists for a reason. I think he is a bit confused.

I'm a member of several pro life groups. I donate a lot of my time and some money to these organizations.
Did you catch me in some political "gotcha" game that you are trying to play?

Educate others, talk with politicians, volunteer time at teen crisis pregnancy help centers, work at charities to help young mothers.

I am a card carrying member and dues payer of a subset of the AFL-CIO.
I give to Adidam, a Buddhist sect (aka Advaitayana Buddhism, aka Ruchira Buddhism) of which I have been a member pretty much my whole grown life.

They are a big business. Huge, in fact with national and state leaders who make bank off of the labor of others. Their business is collecting "dues" so they can collectively bargain for you. I highly doubt anyone "donates" to a union. I imagine you don't pay one cent over what is taken out of your check because you are a member of the union.

I had a 798 book for years but finally told them to frick themselves after repeated threats for working non-union jobs. I'm a lifetime member of the NRA and a Life Sponsor of DU. Probably more that I'm overlooking.
