In the past he's said that the day one of the other Justices doesn't ask a question he wants answered is the day he will ask a question.

The true EMBARRASSMENT is Ruthie Ginsburg feeling that she had to come in as the closer/relief pitcher for the Odummy administration when his Solicitor General couldn't formulate anything that made sense in defending this steaming pile of horse shite.

Thomas is the best SC on that court, with Roberts being closest. Ginsburg is an embarrassment, telling other gov'ts how horrible the US constitution is.

To those of us that still have some self respect, he is. How cynical was his nomination in hindsight? It's the equivalent of having Sarah Palin on the SC.

I was surprised at the choice of Clarence Thomas. The appointment Clinton tried first was a woman of color who had written a paper floating the notion that people who have skin in an issue should get two votes, not just one. She was rejected for that alone. Then Clarence. Isnt that the timing?

Thomas has stated multiple times they he considers the oral arguments a waste of time, and believes court decisions should be made using only the submitted briefs.

in this respect that's even irrelevant Thomas has a CLEAR interpretation of the commerce clause Obamacare goes WAY beyond that interpretation Thomas wrote a vigorous dissent in Gonzalez v. Raich, which was in opposition to federal drug laws (a hallowed bastion of conservatism, according to many progressives)

What the hell are you talking about? Thomas was nominated by George H.W. Bush. In case you didn't know, Bush was President before Clinton so your entire comment is incorrect. But what's new.

Thomas is insecure about his speech. He has admitted that. But damn, speech is a wonderful form of communication and if he has thoughts that are original or pertinent to a case and doesn't express them, is he really doing a good job? There are 9 individuals on the court. All but one have interaction with the lawyers. Thomas's opinion and take on a particular situation goes unknown to the other Justices during questioning and since he is mute, nobody knows what he may have to offer. I don't find it embarrassing, but instead feel for the guy. His insecurity has handicapped him to a certain degree. Maybe we should give him a horn to honk like Harpo Marx's.

Thomas is not the first nor will he likely be the last justice to be silent in court. Thomas is embarrassed of his speech so I don't know wtf that came from. Yeah Thomas was aa appointment but so is the majority of sc judges. There is no metric S set in place to determine the best candidates, it's always been the preference of the potus.
