quote:

Cotton, the "Shreveport Specialist," is the epitome of the crafty left-hander. The 5-foot-10, 175-pound junior has faced 14 left-handed hitters this season, and he has retired all 14. He has also allowed only nine of the 33 right-handed hitters he has faced reach safely as the batting average against Cotton (3-0, 1.93 ERA) is among the lowest on the LSU staff at .191. He has struck out 12 and walked only two.

quote:

"I hit the fastest ever on Sunday -- 88," Cotton said.

quote:

"Hopefully, before his career is over, I can get him some scholarship money," Mainieri said.

quote:

"It's really not that big a deal," Cotton said. "Just the honor of being an LSU baseball player is great. I'm excited and glad to be a part of this pitching staff and team. It's going to be awesome at Florida. Hopefully I can do any role they call upon me to do."

Gotta love that quote.

He hit 86 last year a few times so it's not unthinkable. I remember the pitch but not the game. I think it was the Sunday game. He came in and it was one of his first pitches. I thought man he really hummed that one in there.

I just got a new favorite player on this year's team.

Really nice kid with a nice family as well. He has improved tremendously and is now ready to make his mark in SEC play, we hope.

He's like Ryan Byrd with about 5-8 more MPH.

knowing his brother, I would imagine Chris is probably pretty smart and has tops. assuming he does, what would be the benefit of him receiving an athletic scholarship? or are they not allowed tops money?
