re: Athlon Ranks the SEC Coaches

Last statement before ranking:
"One thing to keep in mind - the record is not always indicative of where a coach should rank in a conference. "

Apparently this is their cure for this:
Record is not indicative?

"The Hat has maintained an elite level of success with four 10-win seasons in six years..."
As opposed to 5 11 win seasons in 7 years.

"..and after LSU became the first and only two-loss team to win a BCS title, Saban has been the far superior coach..."
1. But Saban being the first divisional runner up to win is okay?
2. Since the 3 straight CLM won in this universe doesn't matter, it is true Saban is 3 - 2 inte stated time period. Not quite sure how this is "far superior". Oddly enough winning 12 straight then losing in ATL then to Utah in BCS, plus snatching defeat from the jaws of a 24 point victory is acceptable.
When did Athlon become a rag?

Am I being a CLM homer? Is this an uninformed article or is it just my perspective is wrong?

but everyone knows that was a grade A, world class, exceptional coaching F up.

The biggest coaching gap I can remember was BSU/OU a few years back...till 1/9/12. I can't think of a game that remotely comes close.

He had made some significant progress in changing the media's perception of him

Meh, winning solves all that. Will CLM ever be a 'guru' (Saban, Spurrier, Meyer, etc), No. That's fine, He holds his own against them and everyone else. As long as this continues, CLM and the program will be fine.

Miles should be ranked below 6th after that stinking turd he laid on the Superdome floor in January. That was the worst performance I've ever seen by an LSU football time in my life.

Good thing BamaNation rationally didn't try to ditch Saban after 2010 IB fiasco, where would they be now? Hopefully the same or better mentality will prevail in TigerLand.

Arkansas has improved every year with him. He sent them to a BCS bowl game for the first time.
He is 2-2 against Miles.

Just because you and I don't think he is better coach than Miles it doesn't make it factual. If you asked nationwide he would get a lot of support to be rated ahead of CLM (even with a lot of our fanbase--just read thru this post).

We have a great coach, hope he stays a long time.

As soon as I saw Mullen I stopped scanning.

That's just laughable...

Finebaum was laughing his arse off at the list yesterday and at Les miles. Some of the gumps had him lower.

If LSU had Petrino, we would have won it last year and this year.

So what you are saying is if LSU were made up of all the same pieces, all the same players, all the same coaches, except petrino was coach and not Miles we would have won the BCS.

Hmm, well maybe, but part of coaching is getting all those players and coaches. 1-9 was an abortion of a gameplan, but Les still went 13-0 against one of the toughest schedules I have ever seen.

Miles and Saban will be eternally linked the annals of SEC football, and relatively speaking, Miles is one of the better coaches in the nation. But in the Southeast, the stakes — and standards — are higher (sometimes unfairly so)

Clearly a majority of our fanbase is just like them. I wonder how many of you people will change your tune after this year. You sure were tooting his horn all during last season.

Serioulsy, for all of you Miles haters, if he wins THE title this year, do you finaly get off his back? What will it take for your guys to rally around a coach who has brought an impressive record & championship trophies to a school you love?

I agree with Saban & Spurrier, but not the rest such as Rich & Mullen. I think Les should be in the top 15.

I am not a big Miles fan but I do give him credit for what he has accomplished. Based of what he has done he is the #2 guy in the SEC behind Saban.

Richt is an absolute joke in front of him. Petrino hasn't proven one thing other than the fact he will have a bad defense every year. Spurrier is a shell of what he was at Florida. The SEC East has been a joke the last few years and that is the only reason SC is somewhat of a player.

LOL. He might try winning a BCS bowl first.

It's close between Miles, Saban and Spurrier (can't discount the '90s).
Richt continually disappoints, especially OOC lately.
Chizik, has a NC, but still leaves you wondering if he can do it with a new OC.
