They just stated that they think that it is ridiculous that Parcells would have to wait 5 more years to enter the HOF. They said that they will bring in the HOF Committee Chairman to ask them about waiving the rule for Parcells in this scenario. They seem to think that this will seal the deal for Parcells to coach the Saints. For once there is something that we agree on.

Not necessarily. It's just talk on the radio. I think there's a good chance this happens. But this isn't saying anything we didn't already know

they might be able to circumvent it by calling him a consultant or sumpin. Spags & Carmichael are running the play calling. He would be filling in for Loomis as much as Payton as well. The HC role with the guys in place could be a pretty sweet without the sweat overseer role. A half million per month interim gig ain't bad temp pay either.

Would being a "consultant" mean he is on the sidelines with headphones and a clip board?

I'm confused.

Granted, it's Mike and Mike speculating, so that's probably my first mistake is going down their path.

But, Parcells himself is waiting on some sort of ruling and part of the holdup with taking the Saints job is whether or not he'll go in the HOF in 5 years or sooner?

If so, yikes.

No one really knows, but the HOF issue is really the only negative for Parcell's if he's interested in coaching. If that gets taken off the table the only obstacle would really be whether he wants to coach again or not.

If that was really an issue for Parcells, I would think that would raise HUGE red flags as to whether he's really up for this.

But like you said, no one knows, just speculation.

I don't think it does. He's 70. He may be in good enough health to make it to 100, but that's still an age where waiting 5 more years for something you worked a lifetime for is risky.

Don't fool yourself. His role will not be one of a true head coach.

I'd like to have him, but he will be a CEO type of a coach to an unprecedented degree.

Greenberg thinks the saints are in a disaster state and we won't win 8 games this year.

They also thought losing Reggie Bush was going to be a crushing blow last year.

That's understandable. I don't see how anybody thought we could overcome losing the worst punt returner in the NFL who was also hurt for at least 6 games every season and who was only going to eat up $11 million in cap space. Crushing blow for any franchise.

I would think it wouldn't be as a head coach. I think they will have him be a consultant. I don't even think he would be on the sidelines coaching. I only say this because if he does that, the Saints can get in trouble because of the Rooney Rule. Since he isn't from our organization, they would have to interview different people to fulfill this rule. That might be why the Saints haven't talked to him. If they did talk to him and don't give others a fair chance, then it is more trouble for the Saints.

Just scrounge up Art Shell or Denny Green. They'll do a token interview for an oyster po-boy and a couple nights at the Windsor Court.

Is it me, or does the Rooney Rule almost seem more insulting than fair?

do they have to follow the rooney rule for this. it's just an iterim coaching position. it's not like it's a career coaching job.

Greenberg is the biggest idiot at ESPN. He must have pics of Berman fricking a goat or something to keep his job
