Heading to Bay St. Louis for a 3 night getaway with the boyfriend, we have both been dieting pretty hard so we are going to use it as a get out of jail free card and eat everything in sight for all 3 days. We love hole in the wall, out of the way, no chains unless they are local and good. We love road trips and are willing to drive up to an hour for something can't miss. Price doesn't matter, but I've been to NOLA a ton and have hit up most of the places well known and touristy( IE Commanders, Brennons, Emerils, Mothers, El Gato,Johnny's Poboys ) so really looking for something maybe between New Orleans and BSL, or something new or off the beaten path in New Orleans that you think I may have missed.
Really like trying new things, and I've promised my boyfriend a donut shop, they are his weakness and our Krispy Kreme got blown away last April, between that and dieting, he has been deprived...

So..if you don't want to read all that...

Local can't miss restarants in Bay St. Louis or Gulfport/Biloxi, Donut shop in that area or NOLA?
Any help, Food board??

ETA:
And of course, the second I post it I run across the thread on page 2 about this...Sorry, but will still take any suggestions!

There is a donut shop in ocean springs pretty much in the heart of their shops (closed on sun). Mary Mahoney's is solid (Biloxi). Trapani's in bsl has reopened on the beach.

Mary Mahoney's, sit at the bar, order the presidential platter. Large platter of petite fried soft crabs and sauteed crab fingers. Enough for you and the beau to share. Tell Mr. Bobby I said hello!!

If you are serious about your donuts, buttermilk drop in the 8th Ward ghetto. If not, blue dot on canal St.

When I lived in Gulfport, we ate at Salute's a lot. It is a nice Itlaian restaurant. The dress is somewhat casual and the prices are very reasonable. It is on the beach in Gulfport East of Hwy 49, not far from the Island View. The fried Calamari app is excellent.

I will just take this chance to ask if anyone else remembers the place in Pass Christian with the beer-batter shrimp. Unfortunately I cant recall the name (only went there once -- a LONG time ago). Apparently it did not survive Katrina.

I agree totally with the other mississippians in this thread....Mary Mahoney's in Biloxi is a hell of a good choice...the place has a ton of character and damn memorable food as well...if you do it right, you are gonna put on a few pounds with that meal alone, though!....check it for lunch if you want to save a few bucks but still get dinner-sized portions...

also agree that tato-nut in ocean springs has some damn good doughnnuts and is right in the middle of a very cool little area....

stay at one of the casinos in biloxi and hit both while you are there...

Littleman, I will have to try some of your suggestions....
