A tree will probably fall on it soon allowing the deer to cross as they please. He doesn't sound like somebody who is going to walk it and check it after every bad wind they get.

ETA: And you'll have one hell of a funnel to hunt

overpopulation, which will lead to malnourishment, which will lead to a slow, painful death

inbreeding, which will lead to randolph the redneck reindeer errwhere. (that's my way of saying the deer will be fricking retarded before it's all said and done)

I understand the problems that the guy putting up the fence will have. But the OP shouldn't experience too many negatives in a couple years.

You need to get the naked PETA chicks to march around his high fence, nude, blowing trumpets 7 times until his fence falls down.

The only issue is depending how the lay of the land is and if the majority of the deer movement is coming from his neighbors property, and if they can get around the high fence and still get to his property.

true, but talking about how much of a dickhead his neighbor is helps him (and us) vent a little

When the wind is right, light up the property line. Then let him fence his POS 600 acres while all the deer are gone. Everyone wins.

BTW.. the hogs will dig holes under the fence and the younger deer will move back and forth. It's almost irrelevant that the fence is there.

I'm not 100% sure on this one, but as was stated earlier, deer are owned by the state, not the landowner. I always understood that you cannot fence in existing wild deer. I thought you had to apply for permits, build the fence, and have wildlife and fisheries come in and trap the existing deer. At that point, the landowner can buy deer from deer farms and release them in his pen.

Has anyone else heard this before?

Not a thing you can do about it. The hunting right next to the fence should be good around rut time though. Bucks will walk the fence trying to find a way to get to the does inside. It will create a funnel on your property that you can hunt be he cant.

And I would be he is bluffing anyways thinking that it will somehow convince you to stop shooting deer on your land. Sounds like an idiot. People who don't deer hunt don't pay 75k to fence in land.

Why does he think he'll be fencing 'his deer' IN instead of OUT?

That's not the case. You do have to have a permit to have a fence, a way for an agency to make some money. And you do have to have a wildlife agent come inspect the fence at least once a year. They look at what you do to make sure the animals are being taken care of. Such as sufficient food, browse lines and permanent water supply. But you don't have to kill off all the native deer. A lot of people try to do this so they can regulate the herd, but it's next to impossible to get rid of all the deer.

Okay sorry to leave for a day. Thanks for the posts. Many had the same thoughts as I. I do think that he is bluffing as high fences run for around 10,000 a mile depending on how easy a line is to run. Malnutrition, desease and breeding were issue I were aware of but had not thought about state regs on issues. We have about 250 acre that adjoin his land. 100 of that is soy beans summer/wheat in the winter. 125 of it is hardwoods that were select cut two seasons ago and there is only about 25 acers of bedding area left. His land is 600 acers of unthined young pines. You can sit and watch the deer pour off of him onto us. In the end it's his land and he's free to do with it what he wants. If he high fences it it's not the end of the world but we will feel the effects of it on that piece of our hunting land.

Not that it matters but the land owner is in his late fifties. He married into his land and money and is my father in laws first cousin by marriage. I cant say much about marrying into good fortune as that is how I came to be able to hunt where I hunt, but at least I dont take it for granted or carry myself about as if I have actually built something on my own. He's a dick. He knows it and doesnt care but I'm cordial when I see him.
