agree. he squared one up nicely, but right to the outfielder. for that matter, there were losts of ropes hit right to the out fielders. Rhymes seems to be in mid season form, he hit a lot of balls hard.

Yes, I think Raph is a "known quantity". But it is so funny to see these people making judgments about players after 3 games. Let's be optimistic and wait a few weeks before we decide that somebody can or cannot hit or pitch.

I'm not saying give up on the kid. But i thought he consistently had the worst at bats of the weekend. Along with Hanover.

I am not calling you out bap and I did not mean to even imply that. I was talking in general terms about posters making judgments after one weekend, which happens every year. That being said, you are correct in that Yocom had a rough weekend.

what did y'all think of his arm strength? Looked average at best to me. Not trying to pile on, but when he turned 2, the ball didn't seem to have lots of zip. Still early though.

I am not overly impressed with Yocoms Juco stats, however I went to a few intersquad games and he was crushing. I have a feeling he will come around. I really think Raph can be a .400 hitter. He is so consistent.

I know it is natural to talk about this stuff, but it is early as you said. Let's wait and see what happens over the next few weeks. Yes, the competition was less than average (being kind), but I saw some good things.

I like the less than one team WHIP (.74) and the +1 SO/inning (1.26). I also like the BB and HBPs.

I was thinking after game 2 that the scouting report on lsu was "hit them before they hit you".

We cannot judge the hitting from this weekend's game. We were hit by pitchers 10 times and also had a handful of walks. That is abnormal. Give the team a few weeks before deciding that the bats will struggle or not.

I don't think we did enough with the 'gifts' we were given (walks, hbp) I also thought there were definite oppurtunties to bunt but Manieri is so insecure about the bunt thing he refused to use it more. The days of the long ball are gone and the bunt is a tool college baseball teams will have to use....

Our starting pitching is awesome, but the bullpen is what will determine our season. The SEC will be tough and we'll be in everygame with our starting pitching but they can't go 9 everyday. I thought we looked balanced at the plate and like we were trying to drive linedrives through defense instead of over it, which is an improvement from last season.

We don't have a legit 1st baseman, Katz is avg at best with the glove.

It's still early, and the competition wasn't very good, the 'gifts' won't be as frequent once SEC play starts, but we have plenty time to get better!!

Everyone relax about the "its too early" stuff.

We all know it is too early, but the question was "after the first weekend of baseball..." This isn't a bunch of posters attacking anyone, it is just looking at the only data we have and seeing if we can predict where we are going. I think it is fair, it will be more accurate next monday, and the monday after that even more accurate.

I was worried about hitting and I'm still worried. Too early right now. Still think PM's biggest mistake was keeping Javi. It is what is though.

if we can average 7 runs per, ala last year then this team rolls. in a nut shell, i think the pitching more than the hitting did us in last year.

An ERA of 1.50 and opponents batting average of .182 and thats just barely above average in your opinion? You're a tough grader!

Katz is a force to be reckoned with on the base paths.
