I'm on Team Trent

I'd been fine with having shown him the door last March. That 2010-2011 was one of the sorriest teams LSU has ever produced. They had no discipline, no concept of a "play", poor fundamentals, etc.
This team tries hard and has a purpose.Even some ranked teams might have folded the tent down 30-13 against a good team like Mississippi State.Remember, State beat Vanderbilt in Nashville in OT and Memorial Gym is much more formiddable than the PMAC.
I like this team. Yea,its a stretch to see them make the NCAA's,but with a young team improving I'd like to see them make a run in the NIT. (for the football only dorks, NIT is no different than something like the mid-level bowl games played on a Tuesday or Wednesday night,so deal with it).More playing time can only help 2012-2013.
Great comeback and win last night.

I think everyone has been frustrated the past couple of years. The main theory I subscribed to was that this season would determine his destiny one way or another, so we should just sit back and watch it play out. Nothing was gained by lighting the pitchforks and trying to run him out of town in December. The situation will take care of itself.

I watched a bit of the first half... shot selection really stood out. It was rather poor at times. I didnt see any arse-chewing for it either like you might see when you watch one of the better coaches out there.
Im not even close to an expert at CBB, so if i can identify something as obvious, its probably REALLY obvious.

That is some top notch analysis right there. We beat a ranked team at home, but you're not happy because Trent didn't chew some arse to your satisfaction like "one of the better coaches" might do.
I love LSU fans.

I agree - shot selection was awful at times.

I like the talent on the team... there's some potential here to be a 20 win team. With that said, we take some of the most ill advised shots(especially with 3's) I've ever seen. The dribbling down court w/o moving the ball and taking a 3 right away hurts this team big time.
We need to move the ball around.

That was a great game. What still disturbs me is that they don't seem to work like a cohesive unit. When one is trapped, no one goes to him to help out. Make some horrible passes at times. Hopefully, they will get it together.

I was thinking the same thing.
I guess if he'd bother to watch the second half he may have realized that must maybe Johnson felt the team wouldn't respond well to a cursing blitz. He communicated something that resonated with the team because except for a period after State went back up 41-36 or so, the shot selection was pretty good.
Just can't figure out why someone feels the need to pee in the punch about last night's game.

Being at the game you could see the look of disgust from Trent when we took those pullup threes without passing. However, His style is to teach and encourage, which I believe is the most effective way to coach amateur athletes that are young. What good does chewing out a team down 17 do? You think they will be excited to go play after that? The older players don't take dumb shots because they respect Trent and want to make him proud. The younger guys will come around.

I live in Big 12 country so i get to watch a lot of pretty good basketball and well coached teams.
I was simply stating an observation and drawing comparison. Thats what we as fans do. Im sorry i dont belong to the "we won so everything must be perfect" crowd.

Did you actually watch the game last night? Did you see some of those shots the LSU guys were taking? Yes this team plays very hard, but they are not a very discipled team. They took ill advised shots all game long.

Shot selection is the one thing that stands out to me. If our young guards are struggling with when to take good shots, then why don't we feed the ball to Ham & JOB every possession until it draws the defense in? that'll create easy looks for 3 for our guards.

i always love this type of comment. So John wooden wasn't a good coach, huh? he just didn't show that emotion. Lute olson? tony dungy? tom landry? torre?
you have to be an arse-chewer to be a good coach.

Let me try this again since several of you clearly missed the point.
At most schools poor shot selection earns you a seat on the bench at the next horn, accompanied by an earful of "coaching".
there. happy?

I'd love to see this offense if we had just one motion set play.
We're really good at setting ball screens, and we desparately need a set play that takes some time to develop to prevent us from jacking up an NBA 3 pointer with 30 seconds left on the shot clock.
I thought we did a much better job of moving away from the ball last night, but there were several sets where we were stationary.

It's college basketball led by freshmen and sophomores. 90% of college basketball teams take ill advised shots during stretches of games. That's just what you have to deal with when teams are led by young players. We executed when it mattered. If you are looking for perfection, I suggest you find another sport to watch.

nope, because you must not be watching the game.
he pulled stringer, hickey, and issac for bad shot selections most of the game. he just didn't do it down the stretch because hickey and stringer are players who gives him the best chance to win the game.
