So I recently got a digital IR camera and have been working with it on our Ga. hunting land to get better pics.

For whatever reason many of the night pics just were not picking up any readily identifiable images. Deer in the background were so faint that you couldn't tell anything about them (buck, doe, whatever)

Until, that is, I started opening up the images in MS Paint and going to the Image drop down menu and choosing "Invert Colors".

All of a sudden the images that seemed to have nothing on them or a deer in the background were transformed into negative images that CLEARLY allowed you to see antlers and tines.

Two 8 points, a 9 pt and a 10 pt have now been "marked" for termination next season due to this accidental discovery.

Counting down the days boys.

alright, i read your post 5 times and tried to figure out what you were saying. if you look at your before pics and cant count the antlers, you must be old or need some better lenses

Must be my computer set up or something, because on mine I can barely see the bucks head in the original, much less his rack/tines.

And age has nothing do with it

You can judge the size of the deers eyeball way better in the after pic!!

You sir need to adjust your monitor or something!

I think the contrast and brightness on your monitor needs to be adjusted. The inverted image is almost all white on my screen.

This is interesting, I can't see anything but an eyeball in the first pic but I see him clear as day in the second. I have 20/15 vision but I'm color blind so maybe that's it.

It seems pretty useful to use the combination of the two. They both have things that you cannot see well in the other.

We have a lot of IR cameras up in Shreveport and get hundreds of pics a week. I learned this trick last year too. It doesn't work on all, but on some it works great.

Also, playing with the contrast and brightness helps a lot too.

If you use Picasa and play with the "fill light" settings, it will make a big difference. You would be able to see the first pic clearly. Also, night time IR pics don't have nearly the range of the daytime pics.

It is your monitor. I have a dual-screen set up here. The left is a normal 17 inch Dell, and the right is a 22.5 inch widescreen Samsung. I do all of my spreadsheet work on it and just keep emails and other stuff on the smaller one. But the difference in the two is obvious if I drag from one to the other. The WS one is much brighter. I've played with the settings on both to get them equal, but this one always looks better.

I can see what you're talking about though. It is easier to see on the "bad" monitor.

Either way, it is a cool trick, one I didn't know about, thanks for posting!

I can barely make out an antler at all in the before. The after is so clear it almost seems fake.
